Always look out for unusual signs

A woman's body is prone to several health complications after 40. The effects of aging, improper lifestyle habits and several other factors make a body prone to health issues.

In 40s a woman is nearing menopause and is likely to experience several complications due to the change in hormones.

Healthwise women need to be more careful when they enter their 40s. Here are a few complications that women are likely to face. The signs and symptoms of these diseases are also mentioned for reference:

2/8

Kidney stones

Kidney stones are not exactly stones but mineral deposition in the urinary tract. These are very painful and the chances of its occurrence increases as one ages though other factors also prompt the formation of kidney stones.

It is commonly believed that kidney stones are common in men, but it is seen in women too.

Severe pain in the back, blood in the urine, fever and chills, vomiting, foul smelling urine and burning sensation during urination are some of the warning signs of kidney stones.

3/8

Arthritis

Another damaging effect of low bone density is arthritis which most women have in their 40s.

As the bone density wanes one experiences pain, stiffness, and deformity in the joint areas.

4/8

Diabetes

Though onset of diabetes is seen in young people also these days, the risk of diabetes increases in women after mid 40s.

Fatigue, extreme thirst, increased urination, blurred vision, weight loss, tender gums are some of the symptoms of diabetes in women.

5/8

Osteoporosis

Bone density reduces during and after 40s. Due to changing hormones the body composition is also affected a lot.

Women are always advised to look after their calcium intake and vitamin D levels so that bone health does not suffer.

Chronic pain in the joints, brittle bones are some of the signs of poor bone health.

6/8

Urinary incontinence

A poorly controlled bladder is a big health problem.

Due to aging, the nerves that help the bladder work weaken. Also with aging the muscles of the bladder thicken and lose their elasticity. This loosens the bladder and the person does not have control over them.

Urinary incontinence is a problem when one is unable to hold the urine even during cough and sneeze.

7/8

High blood pressure

This is a serious health complication which has a life threatening impact on the body like heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, or stroke.

While an unhealthy lifestyle is a major factor behind the onset of high blood pressure, age is also an important risk factor.

8/8

Obesity

Until a few years ago obesity was just seen as a side effect of age, but now with so many studies pointing towards life altering diseases happening due to obesity it is imperative to focus on the body mass index as one ages.

In their 40s women are likely to put on weight and the perimenopausal hormones are too stubborn to allow the body to undergo weight loss.
