7 symptoms that should be addressed immediately as they may lead to kidney failure

Kidney failure, also known as renal failure, is a serious medical condition which causes the kidneys to stop performing their normal functions. As we know, the filtering process of waste materials and additional body fluids occurs through the operation of the kidneys. However, when kidneys fail, this waste keeps on accumulating, which causes various health issues. The initial indicators of kidney damage typically remain undetected, but there are specific warning signs. Here are 7 symptoms that should be addressed immediately as they may lead to kidney failure....

2/9

Changes in urine

Kidney problems initially reveal themselves through changes in urine quantity, and appearance. The presence of excessive protein leaking into your urine, will be indicated by a sudden decrease in urine production, along with foamy urine. Normal urine bubbles differ from foamy urine, because it displays numerous small bubbles that persist in the liquid. When the kidney filters become damaged, they fail to prevent protein from leaking into the urine. Foamy urine or decreased urine production, requires immediate medical evaluation from a doctor.

3/9

Swelling in legs, feet, or face

The body accumulates fluid when kidneys fail to function properly, which results in edema. This swelling becomes visible in your feet and ankles along with your face. This occurs because kidney damage prevents them from properly removing water from the body, which results in swelling. This swelling makes shoes uncomfortable to wear, and it becomes challenging to remove rings. Weight gain together with swelling and discomfort, usually accompany this condition. Medical attention should be sought right away whenever swelling occurs unexpectedly, since it indicates worsening kidney damage.

4/9

Fatigue and weakness

If you experience constant tiredness and muscle weakness, then it could be a sign of sluggish kidneys. This occurs because the production of red blood cells depends on a hormone from kidneys which transports oxygen throughout your body. The failure of kidneys leads to reduced red blood cell production, which results in anemia that causes severe tiredness and weakness. The combination of fatigue symptoms with swelling and shortness of breath, indicates advanced kidney damage. Chronic tiredness demands immediate medical evaluation from a doctor, though this can also occur due to other reasons.

5/9

Shortness of breath

When your kidneys fail, they allow fluid to accumulate in your lungs which restricts your breathing ability. Because of this, even light activities and resting positions, both trigger breathing difficulties in individuals. This occurs because your lungs have reduced expansion capability because excess fluid blocks their proper function. You should seek immediate medical care if you experience this symptom since it indicates severe kidney problems. In case breathing becomes severely difficult while you experience chest pain, please contact emergency services right away.

6/9

Persistent nausea or vomiting

Frequent stomach illness or unexplained vomiting, could indicate kidney failure as its possible cause. The failure of kidneys allows waste products to accumulate in your blood, which leads to stomach irritation. The buildup of waste products in your blood leads to nausea and vomiting, along with decreased appetite. Some people experience metallic taste in the mouth, while others develop bad breath. The inability of kidneys to remove toxins from the body leads to persistent nausea, which requires emergency medical intervention.

7/9

Itchy, dry skin

Dryness and intense skin itchiness often result from kidney-related medical conditions. This occurs because kidney diseases cause improper mineral balancing, which produces skin irritation. The symptom appears non-threatening, yet occurs frequently during advanced kidney disease stages. Your body accumulates toxins instead of flushing them out, when you experience dryness along with persistent skin itching. Medical professionals should immediately check for kidney issues, when skin problems fail to respond to standard treatments.

8/9

Confusion or difficulty concentrating

. Confusion or difficulty concentrating

Your brain function too suffers, when kidney problems occur, because toxic substances in your blood damage brain operations. Brain function becomes impaired when you experience confusion and have trouble focusing, and feel mentally foggy. Usually, the people surrounding you will probably detect your memory lapses becoming more frequent first. Your mental changes signal a possible deterioration of kidney failure, which demands immediate medical evaluation. The prompt detection of problems together with appropriate treatments protects both brain functions, and general health status.
