What are the signs of heart attack?

Heart attack occurs when the heart muscles do not get enough blood. The greater the gap in getting medical help the higher risk it poses to the heart.

Before a heart attack occurs, there are several symptoms one can feel:

  • Chest pain which may seem like extreme tightness in the chest. Heart attack chest pain seems like a pain due to pressure, squeezing or extreme ache in the heart.
  • Pain shoots to the shoulder, arm, back, neck, jaw, and teeth. One can also experience pain in the upper belly.
  • One can experience cold sweats all of a sudden
  • Fatigue is a common symptom of heart attack
  • Heartburn or indigestion like feeling is also experienced
  • Sudden dizziness and lightheadedness is a characteristic symptom of heart attack

What to do when someone experiences heart attack

Whenever you see someone having the symptoms mentioned above, do calm them first. Begin CPR if the person is unconscious and immediately call an ambulance and take the person to hospital.

While the ambulance or medical service is on the way, calm the person and reassure them of timely medical help.

Heart attack is dubbed as a silent killer

Heart issues related deaths or deaths related to cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. As per the data of the World Health Organisation (WHO), approximately 17.9 million lives are lost every year due to coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease and other conditions.

Heart attack and strokes claim 4 out of 5 deaths. The WHO report also says that one-third of the deaths occur in people prematurely, which is below the age of 70 years.

5/7

Risk factors of heart attack

While there are several risk factors for heart attack, the most potential risk factors are unhealthy diet, alcohol and tobacco consumption and physical activity. People who have raised blood pressure, raised blood glucose, raised blood lipids, and are overweight and obese are also more prone to the disease.

6/7

Incidents of collapsing during a physical activity

In recent days, few incidents of people collapsing while being engaged in physical activities have been reported.

Few days before Deepesh Bhan, who is known for playing Malkhan in Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai! collapsed while playing cricket. A physically fit person, Deepesh's demise sent a wave of shock among his fans, followers and co-actors. As per reports, Deepesh had exercised in the morning that day and on the way to the shooting set he stopped to play cricket. When he collapsed on the ground blood came out from his ears and nose, reports have said.

7/7

The bottom line

Since the nature of heart diseases are extremely cryptic, it is difficult to ascertain their occurrence before the critical stage.

The only way that can prevent a heart disease from getting bigger and worse is having a healthy lifestyle and having regular medical checkup.

(The symptoms, risk factors and other information related to heart attack are based on various medical reports. Details on Raju Srivastava’s health are awaited.)
