What you should eat before and after getting your COVID vaccine

Millions have already taken the COVID vaccine and many others are queuing up for the same. People are extremely cautious of the vaccine side effects and are making sure that their vaccine experience is safe. However, your diet also plays a crucial role in the vaccination process. While some suggest that you bulk up on healthy foods and necessary nutrients, others emphasize on staying hydrated while getting your jab. That said, here's what you should and should not eat or drink prior to or after getting the COVID shot.

2/6

Drink plenty of water and eat hydrating fruits

Staying hydrated is key to good health, especially when you are getting your COVID vaccination. You must re-energize yourself with plenty of water or hydrating fruits, which can minimize the risk of developing severe side effects and help you feel better through the course of the vaccine.

3/6

Avoid alcohol consumption

Post-vaccination, people experience minimal to no side effects, which can range from fever, fatigue to body ache and pain at the point of injection. As is known, staying hydrated is crucial during this time. There, you must avoid alcohol-consumption as it can cause dehydration, which may intensify these side effects. Additionally, as per a study published in the journal Alcohol Research, alcohol consumption has also been associated with weakened immunity.

4/6

Switch to whole grain rather than processed foods

According to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, healthy eating habits are vital to ensure a healthy body during this pandemic. That is why, when you decide to take the COVID vaccine jab, stock up on and eat healthy whole grain foods that are rich in fibre, rather than processed food that are high on saturated fat and have high amount of calories.

5/6

Eat fibre-rich foods instead of saturated fat and sugary foods

Foods rich in fibre are crucial for a relaxed body and a powered up immune system. During vaccine, you must be well-rested and active, which is only possible if you have eaten wholesome foods. As per the study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, avoid eating saturated fats and sugary foods that lead to stress and anxiety and cause more disturbed sleep.

6/6

Remember to have a balanced diet before vaccination

Do not compromise on your diet before and after getting the COVID vaccine. Fainting has been reported as a side effect of the vaccine, which can be minimized by eating healthy, wholesome foods. According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, apart from getting some reassurance about the process, staying hydrated and eating a healthy balanced diet or a snack can prevent fainting associated with anxiety.
