Vaccinated individuals can also get COVID

COVID symptoms are changing, thankfully not evolving as the virus itself. By changing we mean, the symptoms which were seen in the previous wave are less common in the current wave.

Also, there is a difference in the way the symptoms are seen in vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

COVID is seen in vaccinated individuals too

Contrary to the belief that vaccinated individuals can not get the infection again, UK's ZOE COVID study has listed five common symptoms seen in people who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus. Breakthrough infections are common given the immunity escaping ability of the Omicron variant. However, experts have said that vaccination gives people a layer of protection from getting severe diseases.

So, here are the five symptoms these people should be aware of. When noticed, get yourself tested and remain isolated till the symptoms go away completely.

3/7

Sore throat

Uneasiness in the throat like pain or itchy feeling are usually seen in people when they get COVID.

This symptom became one of the most common symptoms during the early phase of the Omicron led COVID wave.

ZOE COVID study says that sore throat was reported to be the most common symptoms of COVID among vaccinated individuals.

Difficulty in speaking, pain while swallowing food and constant burning sensation in the throat are the characteristics of this symptom.

4/7

Runny nose

The second common symptom in ZOE COVID is a runny nose.

This is a common sign seen in the previous COVID waves too. Since it is a respiratory illness, people have runny noses even when they are vaccinated properly.

Watery discharge from the nose due to the infection caused by the virus is seen throughout the day. Blockage in nasal passage is also felt by few people when they have a runny nose. Sometimes steaming can provide relief.

5/7

Blocked nose

Congested nasal passage due to infection in the throat and nose is evident when you have COVID and show these signs.

Blocked nose makes it difficult to breathe. The person gasps for breath even while sitting. Sleeping becomes a tedious activity as blocked nose makes it difficult for the person to breathe properly and go to sleep.

Nasal drops can give temporary relief, but try to inhale steam in order to keep the nasal passage clean of pathogens.

6/7

Persistent Cough

A new and persistent cough is common during COVID. Though it is not seen in many people, in others it is a severe symptom.

Long episodes of continuous cough can make a person listless. It can drain out the energy from the person and render him or her not capable of doing even daily activities.

Persistent coughs can be treated at home with herbal remedies. Try to have ginger tea to ease the cough when a bout of it is about to start.

7/7

Headache

With sore throat, cough and a blocked nose, headache is obvious. The difficulty to do basic activities like breathing can put a tremendous effect on your head.

Also, the infection can trigger headache and pain.

Seek your doctor's help and take medicines to ease the pain if herbal remedies do not work or if the pain is beyond tolerance capacity.
