Coronavirus symptoms: Is chest pain a symptom of coronavirus infection?

The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic is deadlier than the first one. There is no dip in the daily reported cases, which is making the situation tense. The changing nature of the virus is making it difficult to detect it in the early stages of the infection.

Apart from common symptoms like dry cough, weakness, loss of smell and taste, chest pain is one symptom that has been reported by covid positive patients recently. The symptom is not listed anywhere, but it's being experienced by patients commonly. Even people with mild infection have reported the symptom.

Chest pain as a symptom makes people feel that it can lead to something worse. Here are multiple factors that can lead to chest pain in a COVID patient.

2/5

Dry cough

As per reports, COVID-19 patients have a dry and sometimes violent cough. This makes their muscles near the ribs tear, causing acute discomfort in breathing.

3/5

Pneumonia

Pneumonia is a COVID symptom that is found in people who have a severe infection. It happens due to the inflammation in the air sacs present inside the lungs. It can further lead to the buildup of fluids inside the cavity, causing chest pain.

4/5

Lungs infection

Even a slight bout of inflammation in the lungs can lead to chest pain. If a COVID patient is suffering from chest pain, they must get their X-ray or CT scan done to check the levels of infection and get treated accordingly.

5/5

Virus flowing through the bloodstream

This can happen when the blot clot breaks and spreads to the lungs causing pulmonary embolism. It can lead to chest pain in severe cases and restrict the blood flow to the lungs causing pain.
