Coronavirus symptoms: Pain in THESE two areas could be an early sign of COVID

Pain caused by COVID-19

The classic three symptoms – cough, fever and loss or changes to taste and smell – are the best-known signs linked to COVID-19. However, the recent rise in Coronavirus cases has been leaving people with various other uncomfortable symptoms, such as pain. Pain is also one of the early signs of coronavirus infection. Being able to spot the warning signs can help to identify the infection early and seek necessary treatment in time. Pain in your head and your muscles can be symptoms of COVID-19. Here’s how you can identify these signs.

2/4

Headaches

ZOE COVID Study App suggests that headaches might be a less well-known symptom of coronavirus but it’s one of the earliest. Headaches tend to crop up at the very beginning of COVID-19 and usually last between three to five days.

Coronavirus headaches tend to be moderately to severely painful. They can feel like ‘pulsing’, ‘pressing’ or ‘stabbing’ in the head. These headaches occur across both sides of the head (bilateral) rather than in one area and are usually resistant to regular painkillers.

Headaches can also last for a longer period of time, becoming a symptom of long COVID, that persists despite the initial infection passing. While headaches are a symptom of coronavirus, there are also other conditions that could be the cause of the pain.

Muscle aches

Pain in the muscles is a common sign of coronavirus, and was especially seen as a characteristic symptom for the Omicron wave. People infected with COVID-19 feel muscle aches and pains, especially in their shoulders or legs. Muscle pain is also considered an early sign of COVID-19.

COVID-related muscle pains can be mild or even quite debilitating, especially when they occur with extreme tiredness or fatigue. For some people, this muscle pain can become a hindrance in their day-to-day tasks.

Muscle pain can usually persist for two to three days, but can last for a longer duration for older people. Just like headaches, this symptom can also become a sign of Long COVID. Muscle aches can also be caused due to other factors and need not necessarily be a sign of COVID-19.

Other COVID symptoms

Apart from these two types of pain, it is important to note if you are experiencing any other COVID symptoms. This will help to identify the disease better. The lungs are the most affected organs by COVID‐19. Some of these common signs and symptoms caused by COVID-19 include high temperature or chills, coughing a lot for more than an hour, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, sore throat, blocked or runny nose, loss of appetite, and diarrhea.
