Precautions to take when you have a COVID 19 patient at home

The second wave of coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc in our lives. And this time the disease is even more contagious than the last wave. It becomes increasingly difficult to protect oneself from the virus when you have someone at home who has tested positive. Most people are advised to isolate themselves at home until they have any serious complications.

Apart from taking care of the patient, one has to protect themselves from catching the disease.

From wearing a mask inside the home to washing hands frequently, there are some simple things that one must do to stay safe. Here is the list of 5 such things:

2/6

Wear a mask

Though the COVID patient is isolated in a separate room, everyone in the house must wear a mask at all times. Do not touch or fiddle your mask while you are wearing it. Wash your hands after removing the mask.

3/6

Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently

From monitoring the oxygen levels to giving them food and medicines, you might have to help COVID patients at your home in many ways. Make sure you wash your hands properly and sanitize them. And try not to touch your eyes, mouth and nose.

4/6

Use separate utensils

Use separate utensils for the patient. Do not mix these utensils with the regular ones that are being used by the other members of the family. While washing the dishes used by the patient, wear a mask, gloves and use hot water to clean the utensils. Wash your hands thoroughly after doing the dishes.

5/6

Clean surfaces

Sanitize and clean the frequently touched surfaces like the switchboards, tabletop, remote, doorknobs, taps, etc. All such items should be cleaned and disinfected frequently.

6/6

Monitor your health

While looking after a COVID patient, you must monitor your health too. Check for any symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath. If you are in close contact with them, you must also quarantine at home for 14 days.
