COVID vaccine: ICMR shares how two vaccine doses cut down your COVID death risk

India has administered 566 crore vaccines, out of which 233 crore people are fully vaccinated, which is 29.9 per cent of the total population.

The vaccination drive continues to go on in full swing and various studies are being conducted side by side to know more about the vaccine effectiveness.

The Union Health Ministry recently released four-month data of the national vaccination drive. In the report, the Health Ministry said that the effectiveness of the coronavirus vaccine in preventing mortality is 96.6 per cent after the first dose and 97.5 per cent after the second dose.

As per the Health Ministry, the report has been formed from a 'COVID-19 tracker' developed by synergising data from the CO-WIN portal, which is the National COVID-19 testing database and COVID-19 India portal.

Various aspects of vaccination have been studied from this data. The ICMR identification number and mobile number is what the data is based on. Soon, there will be a vaccine tracker, which will be online, reported the Health Ministry.

Why is vaccination important?

We all have got vaccinated as kids for various infections and diseases. Vaccine is an important shield for protection against the novel coronavirus infection too. Though many people are scared of the side effects of vaccination, they need to understand that the protection offered by vaccination outweighs the temporary side effects it leads to in some people.

Tips by Ministry of Health

- People must keep wearing their masks even after getting vaccinated

- All the festivals should be celebrated in a low-key manner to avoid the third wave

- No unnecessary travelling should be done

4/6

Protection from one dose vs two-doses

After two doses, there is nearly total protection from serious diseases and deaths, which makes vaccines the most significant shield in protecting us from mortality.

5/6

Vaccine availability

The centre claims that the vaccine is available in abundance and people who have not been vaccinated should come forward and get vaccinated. Even if the entire population gets the first dose, it will ensure protection against any further deaths due to COVID-19.

As per the latest data, 58 per cent of adults have got the first dose and around 18 per cent of adults are fully vaccinated.

6/6

Vaccination for breastfeeding mothers

As per the latest research, after being administered Pfizer and Moderna vaccine, breastfeeding moms showed similar side effects after getting vaccinated as non-breastfeeding women did. The breastfed infants also showed no side effects after their mothers were vaccinated.
