With the Holy month of Ramadan coming towards an end, Eid-ul-Fitr, the most celebrated festival of Muslims is just around the corner. The festival is celebrated to end the long fasting month of Ramadan and welcome the month of Shawwal. With a huge variety of scrumptious varieties laid on the table to feast, the festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

After one full month of fasting, it’s obvious that one wants to indulge in eating all the delicious delicacies that are synonymous to the festival. But because your body has been eating such light foods for so long time, one must practice caution.

While there is nothing wrong in enjoying the delicacies prepared on Eid, over consumption and excessive indulgence can shock your body. Sudden changes in the eating pattern after a full month of fasting during Ramadan can be really harmful. Overeating on the day of Eid can lead to indigestion and bloating.

Though the unforgettable social gatherings and the delicious foods are an indispensable part of the Eid celebration, make sure to follow these tips to have a happy and healthy Eid.

Do not forget to exercise
Exercising makes you feel refreshed, happy and relaxed. It does so by releasing the feel-good hormones, which positively affect your mood and help in managing your appetite. A simple walk keeps diseases at bay and makes you feel energetic every time you do it. If you go for a good workout in the morning, you won’t feel guilty about eating the mutton biryani or nan on the Eid afternoon.

Do not ignore the vegetablesThe best and the easiest way to control yourself from overindulging in the deep-fried foods is by having your veggies first. Eating your vegetables first will decrease your appetite. Before hogging on the other delicacies, have a bowl of salad or stir fry vegetables.

Exercise portion controlIn order to keep your weight loss goals in check, think before your piling up your plate with all your favourite foods. You shouldn't abstain from your favourite treats but do not completely lose your diet goals. The best way to stop yourself from overeating is by concentrating on your food while you eat it. Mindful eating helps you to control your appetite. On the other hand, eating while chatting makes you eat more than what your body needs.

Aerated drinks are not your best friendsWe usually think that aerated beverages help digest the oily food but it's far opposite of this. Aerated beverages are full of sugar and are very harmful to the body. Swap your aerated drink with buttermilk or nimbu pani for better digestion and some nutrition.

Have more dates/fruits/dry fruits/figsWe all love sweets and festivals only give us an excuse to indulge more in them. Though you must enjoy your favourite sevaiyan, try to minimise the consumption. You can do so by having a fruit/date/dry fruits/anjeer to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Say goodbye to the table once you are done
Remember, we eat to live and not live to eat. The idea is to satisfy your hunger and going overboard. When your tummy is full, it sends a signal to your brain not to stuff yourself any further. So, pay attention to what your body says. And once you are done, leave the table and do not linger around.
