Fatty liver disease: The best diet plan that can help reverse the condition in 3 months

Excessive fat accumulation in the liver tissue leads to fatty liver disease, which damages liver function. The condition exists frequently among people who have obesity and diabetes, and consume unhealthy diets, with or without alcohol. However, the right diet, combined with lifestyle changes enables patients to reverse their fatty liver disease condition in less than 3 months (over and above medications) The consumption of nutritious foods enables the liver to decrease fat accumulation, while enhancing metabolic processes and reducing inflammation. Let's take a look..

2/6

The Mediterranean diet

The Mediterranean diet serves as an excellent dietary choice for patients with fatty liver disease. The diet consists of fresh whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes and olive oil as its main components. The diet requires regular fish and seafood consumption, because these foods contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help decrease liver fat and inflammation. The Mediterranean diet requires patients to restrict their consumption of red meat together with sweets, and processed foods. The Mediterranean diet has proven effective for liver health improvement, and simultaneously decreases the chances of developing heart disease and diabetes.

3/6

High dietary fiber

Fiber functions as a vital element for treating fatty liver disease. The consumption of whole grains with brown rice, barley, legumes, beans, lentils, chickpeas, fruits and vegetables, helps the body digest food better while minimising liver fat storage. The consumption of fiber helps people manage their blood sugar levels and cholesterol numbers, which play essential roles in liver health. People should consume at least five portions of fruits and vegetables throughout their day. The liver receives antioxidants and nitrates from leafy greens, including spinach and kale which protect its health.

4/6

Good fats

Fatty liver disease does not mean that all fats are detrimental to your health. The liver benefits from omega-3 fatty acids, which exist in fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines), flaxseeds, walnuts and olive oil, because they promote liver healing. The consumption of saturated fats in fried foods, fatty meat, butter should however, be avoided. By having good fats, the body becomes more efficient at insulin management. People should substitute their diet with plant-based oils and nuts, instead of unhealthy fats. For liver health, the body requires healing fats for optimal health benefits.

5/6

Refined carbohydrates

The consumption of added sugars, together with refined carbohydrates from white bread, pastries, sugary drinks and sweets, results in liver fat accumulation and insulin resistance. The recovery of the liver depends on reducing consumption of these specific foods, when treating fatty liver disease. People should select foods with low glycemic indexes, because they prevent sudden blood sugar spikes. The diet should include whole grains, together with beans and nuts and most types of fruits and vegetables. Lowering sugar consumption leads to better weight management, and improved metabolic function and enhanced liver health.

6/6

Adequate hydration

The body requires sufficient water intake to perform all its functions, and to detoxify liver tissues. People should drink at least 8 cups of water per day, unless specified otherwise. Apart from water, research indicates that turmeric (curcumin) supplements show promise in decreasing liver damage indicators and inflammation, during fatty liver disease treatment. This apart, moderate coffee consumption too provides protective benefits to the liver, while also decreasing fibrosis. A combination of a healthy diet with proper hydration and doctor-recommended supplements, works best to promote liver recovery.
