Consequences of mild COVID

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc worldwide, researchers and healthcare professionals are still trying to understand the long-term effects of the disease on patients. While severe cases of COVID-19 are known to cause lasting health complications, it is now becoming evident that even individuals with mild cases can suffer long-term effects.
Dr. Ashok K.Rajput, Consultant – Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine, CK Birla Hospital, Delhi says, “The long-term effects of the virus on people with mild cases have become a growing concern. While most people with mild cases of COVID-19 recover within a few weeks, some may experience long-term effects that can impact their daily lives.”

2/6

Fatigue

One of the most common long-term effects of COVID-19 is fatigue. Many people who have had mild cases of the virus report feeling tired and run-down even weeks or months after their initial infection. This makes it difficult for them to complete daily tasks and can have a significant impact on their overall quality of life.

3/6

Respiratory problems

Another potential long-term effect of COVID-19 is respiratory problems. While people with mild cases of the virus may not experience severe respiratory symptoms, the virus can still cause damage to the lungs that may take weeks or months to fully heal. This can make it difficult to breathe, especially during physical activity.

4/6

Brain fog

According to Dr. Rajput, other potential long-term effects of COVID-19 include neurological symptoms, such as brain fog and memory problems, as well as cardiovascular problems, such as an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

Health Guidelines

To minimize the risk of long-term effects from COVID-19, it's important to get vaccinated and follow COVID-appropriate behavior. Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself against the virus and reduce the risk of long-term effects, even if you have had a mild case of COVID-19 before. The COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death. In addition to getting vaccinated, it's important to continue following COVID-appropriate behavior, such as wearing a mask, washing your hands regularly, and practicing social distancing. While these measures may be inconvenient, they can help reduce the spread of the virus and protect yourself and those around you from infection.

The takeaway

Apart from that, people should stay in regular touch with their healthcare provider, get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, exercise regularly, manage stress, and follow a healthy diet to boost their immune system and alleviate symptoms in the long run.
