Home remedies to get relief from acidity early in the morning

Acidity, often causing heartburn, results from excessive stomach ... Read More
Acidity occurs when the stomach produces excessive gastric acid, which irritates the stomach lining and can lead to discomfort. This condition, commonly associated with a burning sensation in the chest or upper abdomen, is often referred to as heartburn. Excess gastric acid production can be triggered by consuming spicy, fatty, or acidic foods, which stimulate acid secretion. Other common triggers include stress, overeating, consuming caffeine or alcohol, smoking, and lying down too soon after eating.

Acidity may also result from medical conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or certain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). If left untreated, chronic acidity can lead to complications such as esophagitis, peptic ulcers, or Barrett's esophagus. Managing acidity typically involves dietary changes, stress reduction, and in some cases, the use of antacids or other medications to regulate acid production.

Here are a few homemade remedies to treat acidity as soon as one wakes up early morning:

Warm water with lemon juice

Warm water with lemon balances stomach pH and supports digestion. Mix juice from half a lemon with warm water and drink it on an empty stomach for best results.

Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe Vera juice soothes the stomach lining and reduces inflammation; consume 1-2 tablespoons of fresh aloe vera juice mixed with water before breakfast.

Fennel seeds (Saunf)

Saunf reduces stomach acid and promotes digestion; chew a teaspoon of fennel seeds or brew them into a soothing tea.

Ginger tea

Ginger tea soothes the stomach by neutralizing acid and easing nausea and bloating. Boil fresh ginger slices in water, strain, and sip slowly for effective relief.

Cold milk

Cold milk works instantly to neutralize acidity in the stomach. In the morning, drink a small glass of cold low-fat milk for soothing comfort.

Bananas

Bananas are natural antacids that soothe and protect the stomach lining. In the morning, try eating a ripe banana to help prevent acidity.

Coconut water

Coconut water helps neutralise the acid in the stomach. Drinking fresh coconut water on empty stomach can help in subsiding acidity and aiding with better digestion throughout the day.

Tulsi leaves

Basil leaves or known as Tulsi helps bring down the production of acid and soothes irritation within the stomach. Chewing a few fresh leaves, or brewing them into tea also gives relief from acidity and can help in digestion.

Honey and lukewarm water

Honey and lukewarm water coat the stomach lining, reducing acidity. Mix a teaspoon of honey in warm water and drink it before meals for effective relief from acidity.

Takeaway
In Ayurveda, acidity is considered an imbalance of pitta dosha, which is responsible for digestion and metabolism. A balanced diet with cooling foods, avoiding spicy or acidic foods, and incorporating calming herbs can prevent acidity.
