What is the best anti-aging supplement available? Well, a neuroscientist has made it easier for you

If you’re looking for anti-aging supplements to help slow aging, improve energy, and support longevity, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans search for the best supplements for aging. But which ones actually have science backing them, and which are just hype?
Recently, neuroscientist Robert WB Love took to Instagram and revealed 5 anti aging supplements. Let's understand what these five supplements are and how they function.

2/6

Honokiol

Honokiol is a natural compound from magnolia bark, long used in Asian herbal medicine. It’s thought to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, which are key in fighting age-related cell damage. Honokiol can cross cell membranes and may reduce oxidative stress, helping protect your cells from the free radicals that build up as we age. Animal and lab studies show honokiol improves mitochondrial function (your cells’ energy factories) and may protect against neurodegeneration and some cancers. Human studies are still limited, so it’s promising but preliminary. Studies have highlighted honokiol’s potential in slowing aging-related decline.

3/6

Creatine

Well-known among athletes, creatine is not just for muscle growth — it may also help combat age-related muscle and cognitive decline. Creatine supplies quick energy to muscles and the brain. As we age, muscle loss and cognitive decline can become serious concerns. Creatine may help maintain strength, energy, and even memory. Multiple human studies show consistent benefits for muscle mass, strength, and cognitive function in older adults. It’s safe, affordable, and widely researched. Studies have confirmed creatine’s positive impact on aging muscles and cognition.

4/6

Pectasol

Pectasol is a modified citrus pectin (MCP), a fiber from citrus peel that’s been broken down for better absorption. MCP can bind to harmful molecules like galectin-3, linked to fibrosis, inflammation, and chronic disease — all factors that contribute to aging. Lab and animal studies suggest MCP may reduce organ damage and inflammation, but human evidence is limited. Still, some people use it as a complementary supplement for longevity and chronic illness support. A 2018 article in Integrative Cancer Therapies described MCP’s potential in modulating aging-related processes.

5/6

Nitric oxide

Nitric oxide (NO) is quite the multi-tasker when it comes to aging and staying youthful. It’s a tiny molecule your body produces naturally that helps keep your blood vessels wide open, which improves blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues—including your skin and muscles. This is key because good circulation supports skin elasticity, healing, and muscle health, all of which tend to decline as we age. NO also acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, meaning it helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals and inflammation—two major contributors to aging. Some recent studies show that boosting nitric oxide levels through supplements like L-arginine or dietary nitrates (found in leafy greens and beets) can help improve skin appearance by supporting collagen production and reducing wrinkles. It may also enhance muscle function and mitochondrial health, which can keep you feeling stronger longer.

6/6

NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide)

NMN is a precursor to NAD+, a coenzyme critical for energy metabolism and DNA repair, which declines as we age. Increasing NAD+ may promote healthier aging, improved metabolism, and possibly longer lifespan. Animal studies are promising. Emerging human trials suggest NMN is safe and may improve markers like insulin sensitivity and muscle function, though larger studies are needed. A 2021 Nature Communications study found NMN improved muscle insulin sensitivity in older adults.
