Veteran choreographer Saroj Khan dies of cardiac arrest; here is a brief health explainer

Veteran Bollywood choreographer passes away

71-year-old Saroj Khan can safely be the called the first choreographer who made her profession stand out among the shine and sheen of Bollywood. Not many can boast of a 40 year old career in the film industry with 2000 plus songs to their credit.

​Admitted on June 20 due to breathing issues

Fondly called Masterji, the ace choreographer was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on June 20 when she complained of breathing issues and ever since her fans and well wishers have been worried about her health.

​Suffered diabetes and age related health issues

According to reports, the veteran choreographer was long suffering from diabetes and other age-related health ailments. It is being reported that her health started deteriorating yesterday and she passed away at 1.52 am on Friday.

​Saroj Khan had tested Covid negative

On June 24, choreographer Kunal Kohli took to Twitter to share that Masterji was recovering and had been tested Covid negative and there were no signs or symptoms of the infection.

​What is cardiac arrest

The Ek Do Teen choreographer suffered a cardiac arrest and here is what it means- Cardiac arrest is a sudden and unexpected loss of heart function. A person also loses breathing and consciousness. In simple words, the heart suddenly stops working during cardiac arrest and often results in a person’s death. For a cardiac arrest to happen, it is not necessary for that person to have been diagnosed of a heart condition. It can also happen due to the presence of other symptoms.

​Difference between cardiac arrest and heart attack

A lot of people get confused between cardiac arrest and heart attack. The difference is that in heart attack, there are blocked arteries that do not allow the regular flow of oxygen to the body, and heart attack can be sudden and can also silently persist for hours. However, in case of cardiac arrest, the heart suddenly stop working. Most often, cardiac arrest is fatal.
