Sign that you are not as healthy as you think

Most health conditions come with symptoms, while some creep into our lives silently. So, if you consider yourself healthy but experience persistent headaches, you might want to check with your doctor.

Everyone experiences an occasional headache, which should usually not be a cause of concern but if you experience chronic headaches or migraines, it can be a sign of various underlying health issues.

From continued head throbbing to a pounding sensation that comes and goes, if you are experiencing headaches often, here are four underlying problems it can indicate.

2/5

Cardiovascular disease

There are many studies that link migraines with cardiovascular health concerns. A study conducted in 2006 and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that a group of 27,000 healthy women, over the age of 45, with migraines were at an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases including major cardiovascular events like myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system. It manifests itself as a muscular issue at first and might only appear as a frequent headache. A study published in the European Neurology found that 78 per cent of MS patients experienced headaches that improved after six months of the treatment.

4/5

Epilepsy

Frequent headaches can be a sign of epilepsy, a brain disorder that causes seizures. A study published in the Journal of Headache and Pain found that headaches were found to be more common in people with epilepsy than in the population at large. 60 per cent of epileptic patients have reported experiencing headaches.

5/5

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disorder that leads to widespread body ache, fatigue, problems with sleep, memory and mood. According to a study published in Clin Rheumatol, 76 per cent people seeking treatment for fibromyalgia reported having chronic headaches.

A study published in the Journal of Headache and Pain found a link between migraines, depressive symptoms and fibromyalgia. So, if you experience a combination of these three issues, please visit your doctor.
