Adults are recommended to have 400 mg of caffeine a day

A 20-year-old college student took two large scoops of pre-workout supplements, which added up to 790 mg of caffeine. Mino Lee, consumed this huge amount of caffeine-- which is double the recommended intake of caffeine for adults-- and he did this for a TikTok video, Business Insider reported.

Lee's video is going viral

The clip has been viewed over 1 million times; it was posted on September 14. In the video, Lee is seen consuming the caffeine in powder form. He has "documented the aftermath, or what he called "the 5 stages of caffeine overdose," throughout that day," the media reported.

"Have you ever wondered what would happen if you overdosed on caffeine?"

Lee starts the video cheerily with a question: "Have you ever wondered what would happen if you overdosed on caffeine?" and goes on to document his experience. He first felt energized, after some time the video shows him in the class where he is looking agonized and eventually he is seen puking in a toilet.

"I had extreme mood swing"

"I expected the experience to be very fun since I usually react with creativity and energy to caffeine," Lee told Insider. "But for some reason, later that day, I had an extreme mood swing." He said that the side effects were very intense and had impact the next day as well.

How much caffeine is too much?

Usually, adults are recommended 400 mg which is 4 to 5 cups of caffeine in a day. Consuming caffeine to the amount that was consumed by Lee can have serious side effects. The negative effects of caffeine not only depends on the amount consumed, it also depends on how sensitive people are. The US FDA says, seizures, can be observed with rapid consumption of around 1,200 milligrams of caffeine, or 0.15 tablespoons of pure caffeine.

Signs you are consuming too much caffeine

Consuming too much caffeine can lead to insomnia, jitters, anxiousness, gut issues, nausea, headache, increased heart rate, and dysphoria. Lee compared his experience to a depressive episode.
