This one body part is exposed to coronavirus and it increases your chances of getting infected

Since the coronavirus pandemic started, we all have been told to wear masks, wash our hands and practice social distancing. Some of us are even wearing gloves while going out so that we don't touch any surface with our bare hands even by mistake.

So, we all are taking precautionary protecting our nose and mouth, through which the deadly virus can enter our body. But there is still a body part that remains exposed to the virus. Do you know what?

It is your eyes. Protecting your eyes is as important as protecting your nose and mouth. Here's how you can protect your eyes and why you must not ignore this.

The study

A study published in The Lancet found that wearing eye protection can be the next big step in slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus. These findings were supported by a systematic review of 172 observational studies in both health care and non-health care settings across 16 countries.

The study conducted by the John Hopkins University reported back in the month of May that coronavirus can spread through the eyes. The study said the protecting your eyes is as important as shielding your nose and mouth.

The study further explained that if a COVID 19 infected person sneezes or coughs near you, the infectious droplets can land on your eyes, infiltrating your cells once inside. Shielding your eyes just like you do your nose and mouth can limit your chances of contracting the coronavirus.

According to suggestions from The Lancet study, wearing visors, face shields, goggles or bigger glasses can help. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, corrective lenses or sunglasses can shield your eyes from the infected droplets but there are chances your eyes can get exposed from the side, top and bottom of your glasses.

Remember

Do not forget to clean and disinfect your eyewear just like you do your mask. Cleaning the eyewear is as important as wearing it.
