Can coffee have benefits?

We all cherish that comforting cup of coffee—especially during the early hours or those mid-afternoon laziness. Yet, with frequent and intense warnings about its potential downsides, many women sip with a tinge of guilt. However, emerging studies have suggested that black coffee, when consumed in moderation, could offer several health benefits, particularly for women. So before you give up your casual cup of coffee read on. Science might just give you five great reasons to enjoy it guilt-free.

Supports metabolic health and reduces diabetes risk

A study published in Nutrients analyzed data from over 7,000 Korean adults and found that women who consumed two or more cups of black coffee daily exhibited improved insulin sensitivity and reduced insulin resistance. Notably, these benefits were absent in those who added sugar or cream to their coffee.

Enhances longevity

Research from the University of Coimbra, published in Ageing Research Reviews, indicates that moderate coffee consumption (up to three cups daily) can reduce mortality from major diseases such as cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses. The study suggests that this habit could add an average of 1.8 years to a person's life.

4/6

Reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease

A largestudy involving 449,563 people, about 50% of which were women, looked at how different types of coffee affect heart health and overall risk of death. For around 12.5 years, participants, with an average age of 58 were tracked. Researchers found that drinking 2–3 cups of coffee a day was linked to a lower risk of heart disease and death from any cause, regardless of the type of coffee. Specifically, ground coffee drinkers who consumed 4–5 cups a day and instant coffee drinkers who had 2–3 cups saw the biggest drop in the risk of irregular heartbeats.

5/6

Aids in weight management

A review of 13 studies with 606 people found that higher caffeine intake may help with weight loss. People who consumed more caffeine saw much more reductions in weight, body fat, and BMI—up to 22%, 28%, and 17% more, respectively. This suggests that caffeine can support weight loss when used in moderation. However the study also emphasized on having coffee alongside a healthy lifestyle.

6/6

Promotes cognitive health

Coffee contains caffeine, antioxidants, and other natural compounds that may help the brain work better. Studies have shown that drinking coffee in moderate amounts can improve focus, memory, and mood. It may also protect the brain as we age. In simpler terms, an innocent cup of coffee can give your brain a helpful boost.
