Yulia Burtseva dies after cosmetic surgery: What happened to the 38-year-old Italian influencer?
When news came out that Yulia Burtseva had died after cosmetic surgery, it hit a lot of people hard. On Instagram, she was a mom who shared moments from her family life, little bits of joy and everyday chaos that many followers found relatable. Then, early in January, everything changed.
Yulia was 38 years old. She lived in Naples, in southern Italy, with her husband Giuseppe and their young daughter. She had built a following of more than 70,000 people by showing parts of her life online, laughing with her daughter, talking about being a mom, and sometimes, discussing beauty and self-care.
On January 4, she flew to Moscow, Russia, for a cosmetic surgery procedure. It was supposed to be another step in her personal journey and hours before going into the clinic, she shared a bright, smiling video on Russian social platform VK from a café in Moscow, greeting her followers with “Good morning Moscow .”
Soon after she went under the knife at a private clinic. Her condition deteriorated quickly after the surgery, and staff rushed her to a hospital. Despite the efforts of medical workers, Yulia couldn’t be saved and was later pronounced dead. The precise medical cause hasn’t been officially released yet.
"On Sunday, January 4, the blogger underwent medical and cosmetic procedures. Her condition then deteriorated sharply. She was hospitalized, but doctors were unable to save her, according to the press service of the Moscow Investigative Committee," Russian news portal MSK1 reported. "Yulia Burtseva was reportedly undergoing buttock augmentation surgery. During the procedure, she allegedly experienced anaphylactic shock," it added.
Buttock augmentation surgery is basically a cosmetic procedure people choose to change the shape or size of their butt. It’s often done to make the area look fuller, more lifted, or more balanced with the rest of the body. And while it’s talked about a lot on social media, the reality is a little more complicated than the before-and-after photos make it seem. There are a couple of common ways this surgery is done. One uses fat from your own body, taken from areas like the stomach or thighs and injected into the butt. The other method uses implants, which are placed surgically to add volume. Doctors usually decide what works based on body type, health, and expectations.
Anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction that comes on fast and can turn serious very quickly.
When anaphylaxis hits, the body kind of goes into panic mode. But here’s the key thing: anaphylactic shock is a medical emergency. It doesn’t go away on its own. The first line of treatment is an adrenaline (epinephrine) injection, often given through an auto-injector like an EpiPen. Waiting it out or taking antihistamines isn’t enough.
Yulia’s final Instagram update before going to Moscow was from December 5, when she shared a sweet video featuring her daughter. Since the news of her death broke, her followers have returned to that post to leave messages full of sorrow and disbelief. Comments on her feed speak of loss, people are not only mourning someone they followed online, but the human behind the screen who shared tender, honest parts of her life.
