Do you suffer from motion sickness?

As fun as long drive sounds, the thought of getting motion sickness can literally make you jittery. Suffering from nausea, vomiting or dizziness can not just put a damper on your plans but make you very tired and exhausted.

2/9

What causes motion sickness?

When you travel, some people tend to suffer from motion sickness, which happens with repeated movements, moving up or down, confusing the nervous system. The eye sends different signals to the brain as compared to what the ear interprets. This confusion can make you unwell and throw up. Scientifically, this is known as Kinetosis.

Since motion sickness requires urgent attention and quick remedy, here are some easy home hacks to help

3/9

Chew on ginger

Ginger is one of the most effective and easily available natural ingredients, which fights back motion sickness. Ginger contains an active ingredient called 'gingerol' which is very effective in treating nausea, vomiting, and fatigue. It also comes packed with plenty of other essential vitamins, which replenishes your body.

You can have ginger in the form of candy, powder, dried capsules, sip on ginger infused tea or have it raw if you want.

4/9

Practice acupressure

When you face an emergency, acupressure can provide great relief. For this, identify a raised or bumpy part just below your wrist and press your middle and index finger over it for up to 30 seconds. This remedy works like a charm and helps you get rid of any bout of sickness. In the ancient school of medicine, this point is referred to as the 'sixth point on the Pericardium pathway' which acts down on nausea.

5/9

Eat something before you go

If you think that eating while traveling makes you puke, think again. Before you depart, always eat something healthy and stay hydrated too. An empty stomach makes you more prone to motion sickness and throwing up. However, do not eat a heavy meal. Small, filling meals are the key.

6/9

Aromatherapy to the rescue

It is always a great idea to carry your favorite scent or essential oils on a trip. Not only do they smell nice, but they also stimulate vital senses and keep you distracted from the motion. Hence, sniffing on them acts as an easy remedy in times of trouble. Good options to consider are fragrances like peppermint, lavender, cardamom, and even fennel.

7/9

Suck on ice

When you are stuck in a situation and cannot find any other remedy to soothe, sucking on ice cubes can be an easy remedy to soothe the giddy and queasy feeling.

8/9

Herbal teas to help you

Caffeine overdose can sometimes make you anxious and upset your stomach. Sipping on herbal teas and concoctions can soothe the troubled tummy.

Another great option to consider is drinking something fresh like an apple juice. If you do experience motion sickness often, you can drink this before you go the next time. It can prevent throwing up easy.

9/9

Other things you can do

Apart from these handy hacks, you can also try making some change in how you travel. Sitting in the front seat or in the middle, while keeping your vision fixed straight, getting fresh air in between of long rides or simply stretching every once in a while can also reduce the chances of getting car sickness.

Try to reduce your screen time and reserve the reading list for the hotel room if you are more prone to getting sick. Drinking alcohol also spikes up the chances of developing motion sickness.
