Long walks, no drinking, and.... 96-year-old reveals her longevity secrets, 'That's the thing that gets me going....."

A 96-year-old woman, called Bronny, was recently interviewed by William Rossy on IG, where she was asked about her longevity and good health. Bronny lives with her son, that has made her life 'easier' she says, and she takes care of his dog, and vice-versa. When asked if she had a goal to live till 100, she replied in the negative, and said that her only goal was to stay healthy. The life lessons she provides match scientific evidence, which demonstrate how personal choices affect both life expectancy and overall life quality. Let's take a look...

2/7

Staying active for lasting health

Bronny recommends daily physical activity, because she says "Keep moving, keep busy." Physical exercise serves as a vital necessity for senior citizens, because it helps them preserve their muscle power and their ability to balance and bone density. Regular physical activity helps people prevent heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and multiple types of cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that regular physical activity decreases the chances of developing depression and cognitive decline, which enables people to maintain their independence throughout their lives. Daily physical activity through light exercise, gardening or walking, helps people feel more energetic, while improving their mood which makes everyday responsibilities simpler to handle. The woman's advice about staying active leads to longer life expectancy and better quality of life, during those extra years according to expert recommendations for aging well.

3/7

The power of walking daily

She recommends daily walking as a basic health practice because she says "Walk every day, even if it's only a short distance." Scientific evidence demonstrates that walking leads to better blood circulation and heart muscle development, and blood pressure control. Research indicates that women who walk regularly can decrease their stroke risk by 40%, and men who walk daily will experience dementia at half the rate of those who walk less. Walking as a physical activity triggers the release of happiness hormones, which create positive mood effects and decrease anxiety symptoms. Walking serves as an essential practice for older adults because it helps them stay mobile while lowering their risk of falls which leads to better longevity and life quality. 'The only thing that gets me going is walking', says Bronny.

4/7

Avoid smoking and drinking

Bronny warns people to stay away from smoking and drinking because these habits destroy the body. Smoking continues to be the leading cause of premature death, because it causes lung disease, cancer and heart-related conditions, which shorten life expectancy by almost ten years. Vaping also causes damage to the lungs. Excessive alcohol consumption leads to organ damage, which accelerates aging. People who stop smoking at any point in their lives, will gain extra years of life while cutting down their alcohol consumption, will lead to a slight increase in their life expectancy. People who avoid these substances will experience better health in their lungs, heart and brain which directly affects their life expectancy.

5/7

Genetics matter, but lifestyle counts

She explains that genes influence health, but people should also take care of themselves through their own efforts. Research indicates that specific genetic variants exist which help people fight diseases, but these genetic traits exist only in a small percentage of the population. The way genes express themselves depends more on lifestyle choices and environmental factors, than on genetic makeup. People who practice healthy habits including physical exercise, proper nutrition and toxin avoidance, will achieve their maximum potential for living longer. Research indicates that multiple genetic elements contribute to extreme longevity, but most people possess the genetic potential to live longer, when they receive suitable environmental conditions and make appropriate lifestyle choices.

6/7

Don’t judge others

Bronny advises people to avoid criticising others, because each person faces their own personal struggles. People who judge others base their behavior on their own feelings of insecurity, which creates mental health problems through increased stress and negative emotions. Research indicates that developing empathy and understanding between people, creates stronger bonds while simultaneously decreasing symptoms of anxiety and depression. The practice of letting go of judgment, enables people to develop compassion which creates better emotional health for themselves and those around them. The practice of non-judgment creates a foundation for building kindness and resilience, which leads to a peaceful and contented life during older age.

7/7

Power of emotions

Beyond physical habits, the power of emotional well‑being also holds importance. She credits her longevity not just to walking and abstaining from alcohol, but also to her positive mindset and simple, supportive daily relationships.
