Biggest fitness lies

We end up believing whatever we hear and read about fitness. Supplements, nutrition, strength training, detox, they are all terms that get thrown at us and we often blindly believe them 'because why would the fitness industry lie?'. Well, we spoke to four celebrity fitness instructors and got some awesome answers. Here are the biggest lies according to them:

2/5

Yasmin Karachiwala: Spot reduction

YASMIN KARACHIWALA: SPOT REDUCTION: A term very commonly used in Indian gyms and fitness centres, spot reduction has become extremely important all of a sudden. Thin body frames with a bulging tummy want to reduce only abdominal fat and nothing else. Yasmin speaks about this as the biggest lie doing the rounds, “You cannot get abs by doing 1000 crunches everyday. When you lose fat, you lose it from your entire body. Spot reduction is a term which is very common but is a big myth or lie.”

Yasmin Karachiwala has trained Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan, amongst many others in the film industry.

Neeraj Mehta: Doing too much of cardio can make you lose weight faster

NEERAJ MEHTA: DOING TOO MUCH CARDIO CAN MAKE YOU LOSE WEIGHT: According to Neeraj, you need a holistic approach when it comes to losing weight and fat. Only depending on cardio and doing everything from running to cycling to treadmill will help you lose weight, but to an extent. “If you do not include weight and resistance training, your body will lose weight and fat in a permanent and sufficient manner as weight loss is a science. Just sticking to cardio won’t help.”

Neeraj Mehta hails from Delhi and is presently working on an upcoming project with Sohail Khan.

4/5

Ranveer Allahbadia: Weight training shouldn’t be done in the beginning.

RANVEER ALLAHBADIA: WEIGHT TRAINING SHOULDN'T BE DONE IN THE BEGINNING: Many trainers discourage people from starting with weight training right away. A theory extremely popular in Indian gyms with inexperienced trainers, this has got be another lie as per Ranveer, “Somehow trainers propose to begin with cardio to get fit. This is not true. You can absolutely begin with weight training and follow it up with other regimes.”

Ranveer Allahbadia's list includes Tanmay Bhatt. He runs his own youtube channel.

5/5

Alkhas Joseph: Consumption of supplements

ALKHAS JOSEPH: CONSUMPTION OF SUPPLEMENTS: Hopping on the fitness bandwagon is easy but doing it right is difficult. This is because when we approach too many experts for opinions, it tends to confuse us. Alkhas talks about the confusion over supplements, “Many people blindly start consuming supplements and leave eating natural foods in order to get fit. They fall for popular tricks which promote ‘transformation in 4 weeks’. Do not take anything just because a model or celebrity is endorsing it.”

Extremely popular down south, Alkhas has trained actors like Vikram, Suriya and Dhanush.
