New Year 2019: 10 resolutions your doctor would want you to make!

New Year 2019 is just a few hours away and we are all ready to welcome it with great zeal and enthusiasm.

And as the custom goes, with “New Year” comes “New Resolution”, which we make every year. But like always life gets in the way and we fail to stick to them.

But here are 10 resolutions your doctor would want you to make this year, to stay healthy and fit.

2/11

Cut down on processed food

Give up on processed food this year and switch to something healthy. Replace your frozen food with fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating healthy food would provide you proper nutrients like protein and vitamins.

3/11

Spend less time on gadgets

We live in an age where to spend a minute without gadgets seems impossible. Phones and laptops are an important part of our lives and we spend hours on it for different reasons. Make a resolution this time to spend less time on gadgets.

4/11

Get proper sleep

Not getting enough sleep is a general problem of modern days. Missing out on recommended hours of sleep (seven to eight hours) makes a person tired and cranky. Moreover, practicing this on a regular basis might affect your mental abilities and have long-term health consequences. Pledge this year to sleep at least seven hours at night every day for a healthy life.

5/11

Go for a primary health care appointment every year

Primary health care appointment is a topic people often ignore. But it is recommended by doctors to get an annual physical examination. If you pay a visit to your doctor only when you are sick, you may be risking your health. Going for an annual wellness visit can help spot potential problems before it turns serious.

6/11

Be more physically active

Regular exercising not only keeps your body fit, but it also reduces the risk of developing several diseases. Exercise regularly, even it is for 30 minutes. Take the stairs at work, rather than taking the elevators. A small change in your lifestyle will have a major impact.

7/11

Cut down drinking

This coming year try to lose the booze. We are all well aware of the ill-effect of consuming liquor. You can start this by minimising the intake of alcohol and if you have trouble cutting down, consult a specialist.

8/11

Stop taking nicotine and tobacco

You are an occasional smoker or a regular one, you are anyway risking your health by taking nicotine and tobacco. Quitting these are not a big task, all you need is a little determination.

9/11

Manage your stress level

Life is stressful, let’s accept it. It can get difficult to juggle between your personal and professional life. In 2019 learn to manage your stress level. Keep a positive attitude and accept things that you cannot change.

10/11

Do not take medicines unnecessarily

Sadly, we are becoming obsessed with medicines. They often take medicine on their own without consulting a doctor. Stop doing it right away, it may harm you in many ways. Do not take medicines unnecessarily. Take drugs only prescribed by your doctor or after consultation.

11/11

Know your blood pressure

It is important to know your blood pressure reading. Higher the blood pressure, higher your risk of health problems in the future.
