The healthiest alcohol you should be drinking

Those who drink, find it cathartic, those who don't, call it unhealthy. But have you ever asked yourself, why you drink? A Reddit query on why people drink alcohol spurred a series of interesting responses. Some said they drink because it is a tasty social lubricant, it makes it easier to move around a room and make conversation without seeming like a total stiff, to escape the pain of reality and to feel incredibly cathartic.

2/9

Do you abuse alcohol?

Alcohol was earlier used for medicinal purposes but over a period of time people started abusing it, leading to alcohol addiction, domestic violence and the very fatal 'drink and driving' accidents.

3/9

Here are the best drinks

But honestly, there are ways you can drink yet keep it healthy. You ask how? Lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho shared some alcohol options that can be healthy (read: low calorie). The key is to have the right quantity in the right way.

4/9

Good for cognitive health: CHAMPAGNE

There are immense benefits of having bubbly (within limits) because it is low calorie. It is also said to improve cognitive skills and is good for your brain health.

5/9

Low in sugar: DRY WINE (BOTH RED AND WHITE)

Dry wines are low in sugar, thus make a brilliant option for drinking during the festive season (within limits).

6/9

Good for heart: RED WINE

We have heard numerous times how good red wine is for our health. It has a host of health benefits but you can't fully utilise its benefits unless you workout regularly, sleep well and know how to combat stress. Interestingly, this holds true for most healthy alcoholic beverages.

7/9

Good for anti-ageing: WHISKEY

Whiskey is a drink that has antioxidants and has proven benefits in anti ageing, hair health. But if you tend to have more than 30 ml in one go or have it mixed with aerated drink, you are ruining its very purpose.

8/9

Good for lungs: COGNAC

If you are going carb-free, this is the best drink for you. It is great for your lungs.

9/9

How do you make drinking harmful?

You make drinking harmful by the way of your consumption.

Do not have cocktails. They are loaded with sugar and are the worst drinks to have any time of the year.

Do not mix alcohol with aerated drinks (juices, coke etc). Mixing it with high sugar juices and drinks turn your drink unhealthy.
