Sleeping position that can damage your nerves!

Sleeping is important, as important as breathing and eating for living. Its deprivation can not only cause serious health issues, but could even become fatal. Despite the innumerable health benefits of a sound sleep, sleeping in a wrong position can substantially impact your health. There are a lot of sleeping positions that may harm your health but sleeping in this one position can damage your nervous system.

The position: Lay on back, arms up

THE POSITION: LAY ON BACK, ARMS UP: Not so common a sleeping position, but if you are one of those who sleep in this position, then stop it immediately. According to a survey, out of 1000, merely 50 people prefer to sleep in this position. They may feel comfortable and might also get a sound sleep, but this is absolutely not a right way of sleeping.

The impact

THE IMPACT: Having arms tucked behind your head and sleeping puts a lot of pressure on the shoulder nerves. Eventually, it can lead to nerve damage. You may feel tingling sensation and numbness in your arms, shoulder and even on the back of your head.

OTHER EFFECTS: People who sleep in this position tend to snore a lot. This is because of the effect of gravity on the upper airway. When you sleep on the back with hands raised, it narrows down the breathing passage which leads to snoring. It could also increase the probability of airway obstruction.

The Ideal position

THE IDEAL POSITION: Sleeping on the back with arms at sides is considered to be the best sleeping position. It maintains the health of your spine and neck. But avoid using too many pillows as it could also lead to neck soreness and stiffness.
