Here are some reasons

Intermittent fasting is currently the rage in the world of health and fitness. The eating habit which alternates between fasting and eating period has numerous proven health benefits. From weight loss to improving the symptoms of chronic disease, this lifestyle habit has gained tremendous popularity in a short time. But this does not imply that it is suitable for all. Intermittent fasting may help men overcome fitness and weight loss-related hurdles, however, this might not be the same for women. We will give you some valid reasons why women must reconsider following this diet trend.

2/5

Intermittent fasting for women

Due to the biological and hormonal differences, men's and women's bodies respond differently to the fasting method. Evidence suggests that it might be more beneficial for men to achieve their goals, but in the case of women, the results may be limited.

A 2005 study suggests that following this eating habit for a long time may worsen blood sugar control actually in women after three weeks of intermittent fasting, which was not witnessed in the case of men. There was no change in insulin sensitivity, but the glucose tolerance declined.

Moreover, following this eating pattern may also disturb the monthly menstrual cycle.

3/5

Why these drastic changes happen

Researchers suggest that these changes are mostly witnessed in women because their bodies are extremely sensitive to calorie restriction. Fasting for a long time and taking all the calories in a short period may affect a small part of the brain called the hypothalamus. This change may disrupt the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which is responsible for producing two other hormones in the body. This results in irregular periods, infertility, and poor bone health. That's why it is recommended for women to try the modified version of intermittent fasting, in which they have to fast for a shorter period.
