Overrated fitness trends that are not helping you lose weight at all

Overrated fitness trends exposed

In a world dominated by Instagram and Facebook, new fitness trends emerge every single day! And some indeed make it to such hype that you come across a lot of people claiming promising results on them. But are these fitness trends really worth the hype? Should you really try them? Or are they just overrated and viral techniques that guarantee no long-term results?

We all know how tempting it can be to jump on the latest fitness bandwagon, but not all trends are created equal. Fitness trends do not deserve your efforts or time and can do more damage than good. Let’s check out some fitness trends that are overrated, and not as effective as they claim to be!

2/6

The 12-3-30 routine

You’ve probably seen it all over social media – the 12-3-30 treadmill workout! It indeed sounds catchy! 12% incline, 3 mph speed, and 30 minutes of pure cardio. But is it all that is required for fitness?

The truth is the 12-3-30 trend mainly focuses on cardio, which can give you a quick calorie burn but not be a sustainable solution for long-term weight loss. Relying solely on cardio can bring temporary results and make your weight loss journey less effective in the long run. A well-rounded fitness routine should include strength training, flexibility, and of course a balanced diet for sustainable results.

3/6

100 push-ups a day

According to Miten Kakaiya, fitness coach, founder, Miten Says Fitness, “100 push-ups a day sounds like a great way to build upper body strength, right? Well, not so effectively! While push-ups are an excellent exercise, doing a hundred of them every single day can be overkill. ‘This trend leaves no room for muscle recovery, which is crucial for muscle growth and injury prevention. Moreover, focusing solely on the number of push-ups can distract you from maintaining proper form - which can lead to injury.”

4/6

28 days abs challenge

Who doesn’t want sculpted abs in 28 days!! The allure of this trend is undeniable but it misses out on one of the most crucial factors in losing belly fat – the diet! You may do hundreds of crunches or planks, but if your diet isn't in check, those abs will remain hidden beneath a layer of fat. Remember: Abs are made in the kitchen as much as in the gym.

5/6

OMAD (One Meal A Day)

OMAD or One Meal A Day is a trend that involves fasting for most of the day and consuming all your calories in a single meal. It might sound intriguing for weight loss but has a hidden downside. Eating only one meal a day may lead to metabolic adaptations, making it more challenging to lose weight in the future. Your body might become more efficient in storing fat as it adapts to irregular eating patterns. A sustainable weight loss diet is about consistently eating balanced meals and not extreme fasting.

6/6

The takeaway

Fitness trends might come with a lot of merits but are often overrated and technically unsuitable for everyone. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to fitness. In fact, one needs to find a personalized approach to fitness, one where your unique needs and goals are balanced with your lifestyle, habits, preferences, and body capability.
