Should you switch to a Sattvic diet for weight loss?

A sattvic diet is a recommended diet for many conditions including weight loss. However, unless you have mentally accepted this kind of diet and lifestyle, it may not be something you would be able to sustain for long without making some deeper commitment. Putting together a diet pattern which is more therapeutic and will address your health concerns and also help you to adapt well with your present lifestyle. We can call this a lifestyle diet.

What are some sattvic foods to eat for weight loss?

Sattvic diets consist of fresh, nutrient-dense foods, including vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, sprouted whole grains, fresh fruit juices, and herbal teas. A bowl of raw salads might be a perfect sattvik option, but if you are suffering from gut related issues or IBS, this will be a totally contra-indicated diet. Hence we must plan to have a diet that is personalised for our needs.

How to avoid bloating from a sattvic diet?

“Bloating is always associated with too much sugar intake and also when you eat incompatible foods. It is common for us to feel postprandial eating as part of our binge eating. Bloating can be avoided by practising meal spacing, not to stuff your body with too much sugar and carbs in one single meal, Drinking water an hour before or after meal and not during the meals, not mixing too many different types of food in a single meal, avoiding any form of snacking immediately after a meal and also by avoiding long sitting or eating immediately before sleep times,” says, Dr. Manoj Kutteri, Ayurveda expert, Wellness Director, Atmantan Wellness.

Food and drinks to go for or avoid

Festive indulgence for us is eating heavy foods, sweets, snacking in between and staying up late at night. One should be conscious about the consequences of such indulgence and must avoid the unhealthy options in our diet. Avoid foods that are totally processed, cold, pre packed, high on flavours and masalas, fried and those that contain more sugar and salt. We should also avoid sweetened juices, carbonated drinks and alcoholic beverages to stay healthy and fit.

Portion control: How to lose weight through it?

It is said that our satiety is achieved not only by the volume of food we consume, but also the aroma of the food, presentation of the food and also the mindful ways we consume the food with smaller portions and slow eating techniques. Our body tends to store the excess calories we take in at a time and this causes a sudden rise in the sugar levels and the excess sugar gets stored as fat. With portion control, we only try to supply the body with the essential calories and nutrients that the body needs at that moment. This can help the body to use it up at the same time and avoid any storing of calories as fat.

6/6

Eating slowly can help with weight loss

Also the slow eating habits provides sufficient time for our brain to feel the satiation from eating and to instruct us to stop eating. Chewing your food 32 times to break it down to smaller chunks. This will make it easier for the gut to digest it. Less strain on your gut may help you to lose weight easily.
