How triphala can help you lose weight

Triphala, an Ayurvedic herb formulation which etymologically breaks down to three fruits, is actually composed of three fruits that are native to India. Emblica officinalis also called Amala or Phyllanthus emblica; Terminalia bellerica also called Vibhitaka; and Terminalia chebula also known as Haritaki or harada are the three principal components of Triphala. In the recent times, it has come to be known as a wonder ingredient that can aid weight loss if consumed on a regular basis in addition to a healthy diet and exercise regime. Used for internal cleaning and detoxification, this mixture is a potential medicine for digestive disorders and complications including constipation.

How does it aid weight loss?

Digestion is one of the key elements that affect the way our body functions and looks. Since triphala influences digestion and helps achieve the perfect balance of the digestive tract, it takes us one step closer to a healthy body and our weight loss. Studies show that triphala strengthens and tones the colon tissue and can help reduce excessive fat that gathers around the belly. It helps in removing toxins from the body and boosts metabolism which is a direct pathway to a healthier, desirable body weight. Studies have also shown greater fat reduction, reductions in waist circumference and hip circumference in obese adults who consumed triphala in addition to a healthy diet and a good workout regime.

How to consume it for optimal results?

Available in powder form, liquid, tablet or as capsules, triphala can be bought from a nearby ayurveda store or online sites. Make sure that the product that you’re buying is authentic and comes from a trusted source/seller.

For maximum absorption and most effective action, it is recommended to have triphala on an empty stomach between meals. It is mostly recommended to have 500mg to 1gm Triphala in a day but the dosage depends largely on the condition, weight and other specifications that are unique to the person consuming it. The powdered version is the most largely consumed of triphala and is taken with warm water and honey, preferably before a meal. Here are some of the dos and don’ts for consuming the Ayurvedic formulation.

Don’ts

· If you’re pregnant or lactating, it is advisable not to consume triphala for it can lead to an increase in the blood flow and cause miscarriages or maybe passed on to the child.

· Do not consume triphala without proper medical prescription if you’re diabetic

· Don’t take large doses of triphala if you’re already suffering from gastric problems because it may further aggravate your condition.
