If you too, are struggling to ditch the kilos, here's all the inspiration you need:

Meghna Bidichandani was a new mom who struggled with post-pregnancy weight gain. While her weight shot up over 70 kilos, she started experiencing a lot of knee and back pain, and became extremely worried about experiencing complications at a young age. Slow and steady, she trusted the goodness of simple home cooked food, yoga and is now a healthy and happy mama to her little one!

Name: Meghna Bidichandani

Occupation: Teacher

Age: 29 years

Height: 5 feet 1 inch

City: Thane, Maharashtra

Highest weight recorded: 75 kilos

Weight lost: 18 kilos

Duration it took me to lose weight: 6 months

2/7

What was the turning point

I had put on a lot of weight post my pregnancy, and my weight had shot up to 70+ kilos. This led me to experience frequent knee pain, back pain and lethargy as well. I felt really uncomfortable with my shape. That's when I thought losing weight is the need of the hour if I deeply wanted to get rid of all the health issues.

3/7

Diet followed

My breakfast: I indulge in Indian breakfasts like upma, oats idli, poha, paratha(of any veggies), cheela and even fruit salads.

My lunch: I prefer to eat only and only home cooked food which includes 1 roti, 1 katori sabji(can be any like cauliflower, cabbage, brinjal, peas, paneer, methi, palak, lauki), 1 katori curd and 1 katori salad...

My dinner: A small portion of rice and dal, or may be Dalia khichdi made with lots of veggies and dal, or any paratha like methi paratha or gobi paratha with curd. I make sure not to over eat and have it till 8pm.

Pre-workout meal: 1 glass of water with 5 soaked almonds

Post- workout meal: My breakfast

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): When it's my day to cheat, I love to gorge on pizzas and pani puri.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Dalia Khichdi. It's our traditional food with so many benefits and tastes so well. We can make it sweet or spicy as per our desire.

4/7

Fitness regime

My workout: I follow a home workout regime, I do power yoga on alternate days and exercises on rest days.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: The more you stay physically active the more you stay fit. Weight is just a number, real fitness is when you eat right and in the right quantity. Dont starve yourself and most importantly be it any weather stay hydrated. Proper Water intake and adequate sleep both are the secrets to lose weight.

5/7

How do you stay focussed?

Eating the right food doesn't require motivation. Just the thought of not catching diseases keeps me motivated.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? The mirror does wonders to me by helping not to lose focus. Also my clothes indicate if I am on the right path of maintaining my weight and ensuring I don't gain again.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

It leads to a home of diseases. Knee pain, back pain, diabetes and what not. Overweight kills us silently.

6/7

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

I look forward to stay healthy and glowing with the time passing and age increasing. I don't want my child to come up to me and say you look fat and shabby... I also want my child to follow fitness as a part of lifestyle.

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

I avoid sugar completely, be it my tea or coffee I add jaggery to it. Although I have a sweet tooth and it's difficult to avoid sweets around me, yes I try not to starve and have a very small portion of it to satiate myself. I avoid deep fried items, maida, biscuits and soda drinks.

7/7

What was the lowest point for you?

The time when climbing stairs was no less than a challenge for me, breathing was difficult and the experience of weight not being handled by my knees, days when simple household chores stressed me like never before. These were my lowest points.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: It's always easy to gain a few kilos but difficult to lose a few grams also. Just focus in healthy lifestyle and home cooked pure food. Junk food is tempting but breaks you from within. Our kitchen made food is always pure, healthy, tasty and builds us for future challenges related to health.
