The turning point

I had put on a lot of weight and had reached a shocking 132 kgs. I was sick of people giving me useless advice, felt humiliated when people passed remarks and gossiped about me. However, some of my well-wishers like my family and friends supported me through this difficult phase and gave me the boost I needed. My Bua and my friend Shivam pushed me to join a Gym. I started from a local gym where people weren’t focused enough and distracted me too. Then my friend suggested to me a gym called Pro fitness Best Gym in South Mumbai, to which I am extremely grateful.

Diet followed

My Breakfast: In the first month, I skipped my breakfast. For the second month I ate only an apple after my workout session. Then from the third month onwards, I had an apple + protein regularly.

Lunch : I had an apple with orange juice the first month. Gradually, I started having cabbage sabji with 2 pcs of jowar/bajra roti. From the third month onwards, I also added paneer and salad to my lunch diet.

Dinner: I made sure I had my dinner before 8pm.

1st Month: Salad/Fruits

2nd Month: Protein + salad/fruits

3rd Month: Paneer bhurji in olive oil/2 pcs roti (jowar or bajra)

At times, when I felt hungry, I had oats to help me to stay fuller. On cheat days, I had plain dosa without oil/butter. Also, I drank black coffee pre-workout.

4/7

Workout regime

I did 45 minutes of weight training + cardio everyday and indulged in core-strengthening exercises (ab workouts) every alternate day.

5/7

How do I stay motivated

Looking at my old photos kept me motivated. I was very clear in my head about what I had to achieve in terms of fitness. My family and friends pushed me to lose more weight to get in shape. Every Monday, I used to check my weight. The progress was what kept going.

Additionally, weight loss is all about teamwork. It was not possible for me to make it on my own. My trainer Vishal sir helped me a lot to lose weight. He was a great source of my motivation too. While he helped me maintain my fitness, my mother and sister helped me with my diet.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?: I make it a point to stick to my goal i.e. to lose weight. I make sure I follow my diet religiously, especially when I don’t workout.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

When I was overweight, be it at a party or anywhere else, my weight and I became the talk of the town. People gossiped about me and many began giving me terrible advice.

What was the lowest point for you?: Initially, it was extremely difficult to go on. My body was in a lot of pain and I was highly demotivated. Also, it was a trying time for me since I could not eat the foods I loved.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?: I want to be happy with the shape I'm in.

7/7

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

I now have a fixed routine of workout and diet. I live for myself, work towards staying healthy and in shape. I am a food lover. I own a sweet shop, where I can eat absolutely anything. Previously I ate 3 samosas everyday, but with time, I sacrificed it all. Over time, I have gained more confidence and have started to wear the clothes I want to.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: Everyone should give at least 1 hour to the gym for a healthy lifestyle .
