How this woman lost 28 kilos in 2 years

Dr Shambhavi Bhalla was not in her best element when she was overweight. Besides struggling to go about her day-to-day routine, she was also unhappy with the way she looked in the mirror. Furthermore, she was concerned about her health. That’s when she decided to switch to healthy alternatives, took up healthy eating and worked out regularly. Over the course of two years, she lost a whopping 28 kgs. Here’s her story:

The turning point

Weight gain had taken a toll on my body. Neither did I have the energy or the strength to go about my daily activities, but there was this constant fear of ruined health. I hated what I looked in the mirror and I was not happy at all. But with realisations came changes and slowly I lost all the extra weight. Quantified nutrition was the best thing that happened to me.

Diet followed

Breakfast: Coffee with bread and omelette


Lunch: Roti with paneer bhurji, curd, salad


Dinner: Egg rice with veggies and curd


Pre-workout meal: Coffee with milk


Post-workout meal: Whey protein


I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): I don't cheat, because I don't understand why I have to.


Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Egg omelette with bread, apple

Workout regime

I train 6 days a week. I enjoy doing resistance training. For me, weight training has helped me build strength and it's an absolute bliss.


How do I stay motivated?: My children are my motivation. And apart from that the thought that I can inspire even one person to be fit, motivates me and keeps me going.


How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?: Just like we brush everyday I train everyday.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

The toughest part of being overweight is not having the energy and the strength to do things you want to do and there’s of course the constant fear of ruining one’s health.


What was the lowest point for you?: The initial phase of my weight loss journey was the lowest point for me, where I was working hard but was just not losing weight.


However, I had my highs too. It was when I won TC 14 as a first timer which taught me that hard work never goes in vain.
