Priya Tiwari had started gaining weight post her marriage. Over time, not only did she stop fitting into her clothes, but she was also diagnosed with thyroid. Her body fat percentage indicated that she was obese and she began suffering from many health ailments. With proper curated diet plans and walking daily for an hour or so, she was able to bring her weight down to normal and achieve her weight loss goals. Here’s a look at her journey:

Name: Priya Tiwari

Occupation: Working

Age: 37

Height: 5’5

City: Gurgaon

Highest weight recorded: 83.2 kgs

Weight lost: 18 kgs

Duration it took me to lose weight: 1 Year and 2 Months

The turning point

My weight loss was not an overnight success. I didn’t take a magic pill, rather I had to work hard for it. Even though I had gradually gained quite a lot of weight post my marriage, the day I realised that none of my dresses fit me any longer was a huge shocker! I weighed 82.8 kilos and the fat percentage parameter had put me in the obese category. This was when I decided to lose weight and get back in shape.

3/7

Diet followed

My breakfast: Poha/Peanut butter on a slice/apple shake with 1 bread slice/kellogs K with toned milk/Omelette without yolk

My lunch: Any vegetable, 1 chapati and salad/rice and dal/pasta/burger without cheese

My dinner: Most days I took protein filled dinner- tandoori chaap- 4 pieces/veg steamed momos/ paneer tikka/soup/paneer salad/1 methi roti

Pre-workout meal: 1 Tbsp peanut butter

Post- workout meal: 2 boiled eggs

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): Burger/pizza/noodles

4/7

Workout regime

I indulged in 45 minutes to an hour of walking daily.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: For me, the key to success was one small change at a time. I got curated diet plans from my dietician (@dietsmart_tanveetutlani) on the basis of my daily routine and health cycle. With focused eating habits and brisk walking for 1 hr-1.5 hrs daily, I shed extra kilos.

5/7

How do I stay motivated?

Once, I could see visible results, there was no looking back. Every day felt like a new learning experience. When you see your weight dropping, it gives you a kick and keeps you on your toes.

Also, one of the simplest ways of keeping yourself motivated is to take a look at your old photographs and see how far you have come in life. For me, it works as my greatest source of motivation and helps me to keep moving forward in life. Now, I see myself as a very healthy and confident individual.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?: Honestly, my biggest motivation is my son. He is 3 and I want him to feel proud of his mom. He shouldn’t feel shy taking me to his school or while introducing me to his friends

6/7

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

When you are overweight, it is not only your physical health which takes the beating, but even your mental health goes for a toss. You lose confidence and may get exposed to depression.

What was the lowest point for you?: It was when I experienced breathlessness, was diagnosed with thyroid, and got swollen feet that I was at my lowest.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?: I want to be healthy and able to continue doing what I do.

7/7

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

- Drink plenty of water

- Walk for 45 Mins minimum

- Learn to say No (to unhealthy food)

Lessons learnt from weight loss: If I can do it, anyone can. Weight loss is a journey you can't achieve in a day or two. You need focus and motivation. Moreover, you also need to be consistent and patient with your efforts to see the changes in your body.

When you are on a quest to lose weight, you have to become your own motivation and you have to convince yourself to keep going on, irrespective of the circumstances. Also, once you begin to see the results, there will be no going back!
