Ayurveda for hormonal issues

Ayurveda has been in existence for more than a decade now. It is an age-old system which addresses the overall well-being of people and also the female hormone health through their various ayurvedic herbs. For women who experience hormonal imbalances leading to mood fluctuations and issues in reproductive health and energy levels, ayurvedic herbs can be very helpful because of their rejuvenating properties. The natural roots of Ayurvedic herbs are known to support the endocrine system, reduce stress and promote overall vitality for centuries.

2/7

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha which is also known as ‘Amukkara’, ‘Indian Winter Cherry’ or ‘Indian ginseng’ is an ancient medicinal plant. This ayurvedic herb has the ability to balance female hormones. A 2019 research study suggests that Ashwagandha impacts the endocrine system which helps in getting a better mood, and reduces stress which in turn helps with hormonal imbalances like anxiety, depression and sleep issues.

3/7

Shilajit

Naman Dhamija, ayurveda expert and founder of Dharishah Ayurveda says, “Shilajit is a popular Ayurvedic herb which is found in high-altitude Himalayan mountain ranges. This particular herb is known to offer numerous health benefits making it a popular supplement among women. It also helps in balancing female hormones like progesterone and estrogen which help in regulating the menstrual cycle. To get complete benefits of Shilajit, women should intake pure shilajit.”

4/7

Shatavari

The name Shatavari comes from Sanskrit which can be translated to ‘curer of a hundred diseases’. This particular herb is known to increase the production of prolactin, a type of hormone that is important in breast-feeding. It is also used in treating hormonal imbalances in females like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and infertility. A small study also suggests that taking a herbal mixture which has shatavari in it significantly reduces hot flashes in women.
5/7

Gokhru

Gokhru, also known as Gokshura, is an Indian Ayurvedic herb known to show promising benefits to women. This specific herb grows in cold and hot temperatures. Gokhru or Gokshura is beneficial for women as it helps in minimizing hormonal imbalances and plays a crucial role in regulating menstrual cycles. Apart from this, consuming gokhru every day helps in benefiting women who suffer from PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome).

6/7

Brahmi

Brahmi is a powerful Ayurvedic herb that helps an individual reduce stress and anxiety. This indirectly supports hormonal imbalances as when a woman experiences high stress levels their body starts to create more cortisol thereby disrupting hormone production and regulation.

The takeaway

Ayurvedic herbs offer numerous benefits to maintain and support female hormone health. Each of the herbs discussed above possesses its own therapeutic virtues. These herbs do not just offer remedies but heal and interconnect the mind, body and spirit of an individual.
