5 colorful fruits and veggies that can keep you cool during peak heatwave

With the rising temperatures during heatwaves, it becomes increasingly difficult to stay hydrated and cool. In such circumstances, drinking sufficient amounts of water becomes mandatory. Moreover, there are some other steps you may consider for maintaining your body temperature in check. For instance, eating certain fruits and vegetables is considered an excellent idea, as these foods have water in abundance. Not only do they quench thirst, but their vivid colors further motivate people towards eating such foods. Hence, there are many fruits and vegetables that are rich in nutrients and antioxidants along with being highly hydrating. Below are five such colorful fruits and vegetables which are effective in keeping you cool in peak heat wave conditions.

2/7

Watermelons to hydrate instantly

Watermelon is an extensively popular fruit consumed by people across the world during summer. Due to its high water content of about 90% or more, this fruit keeps the body cool and hydrated. The natural sweetness of this fruit has made it popular among all age groups. Apart from this, the presence of vitamins and antioxidants adds to its nutritional benefits. By having watermelons chilled, you will be able to instantly feel relief from the heat and avoid any form of dehydration.

3/7

Cucumber for cooling effect and hydration

Due to its cooling properties, the cucumber is one of the best fruits during the summer. Apart from keeping the body cool, this fruit ensures continuous hydration throughout the day. This fruit may be eaten raw, included in salads, or even added to drinking water to get cooling effects. Light in nature, cucumber makes a perfect fruit during summer and regular intake of cucumber helps in reducing body heat and improving digestion.

4/7

Mangoes for nutrition and energy

Often called the King of fruits, mangos are widely consumed during the summer because of their pleasant taste. Despite being heavy and somewhat sweet, these fruits can help you get back the energy you lose due to extreme heat. These fruits are either consumed as juices or as whole fruits. However, if you consume them during the day and in conjunction with other cooling foods, then their benefits will be further multiplied.

5/7

Coconut water for rehydration

Consumed naturally, coconut water helps in rehydrating your body because of its electrolytes. By taking coconut water regularly, you will be able to stay hydrated and cool. It contains high amounts of minerals, which make this drink quite popular during the summer.

6/7

Tomatoes for their refreshing nature

Rich in water, tomatoes are a great fruit to eat during the summer. Not only is the refreshing taste appealing to consumers, but these fruits also have numerous antioxidants that help protect the body from heat stress.

How to store veggies and fruits without a fridge

Keep them cool and dry. Dark basements work better than countertops because temperature swings kill produce fast. Potatoes, onions, and garlic go in paper bags in a cool corner—they hate moisture and light. Tomatoes, bananas, and avocados actually ripen better at room temperature, so leave them out. Wrap leafy greens in damp cloth and store them in the coldest spot you've got. Apples last longest in cool conditions, even without refrigeration. The key is airflow. Don't pile everything together or they'll rot from trapped moisture. Check regularly and pull out anything that's going soft before it ruins the rest.
