Expert shares crucial washroom hygiene tips: Are you following them?
The best and easiest ways to avoid germs and infections are to maintain hygiene in your home's washroom. A clean washroom not only keeps your family members healthy but also assures comfort and pleasure in daily usage. Good hygiene depends upon consistent personal habits, appropriate cleaning routines, and using hygiene products intelligently-like toilet seat sanitizers and disposable toilet seat covers. These habits, if continued regularly, can reduce the chances of infections (including UTI) and prevent the spread of germs from one family member to another.
Ashima Sharma as Research & Development Lead Pee safe shares tips ignoring which can lead to serious health repercussions.
Personal hygiene habits that matter
1. Wash hands thoroughly
Handwashing is the best defense against germs. Always wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after using the bathroom. Clean between your fingers, under your nails, and around your thumbs. This simple habit prevents many everyday infections and stops germs from traveling to other surfaces in your home.
2. Dry hands well
Wet hands have a greater attraction to bacteria and are easier to spread because of the moisture factor. Using paper towels or a personal hand towel washed frequently is recommended. Avoid using shared or common towels, as they hold moisture and can be carriers of bacteria when not regularly cleaned.
3. Shut the toilet lid before flushing
Flushing with the lid up causes a spray of tiny droplets, called a "toilet plume," which may reach several feet and settle on nearby items, such as toothbrushes, towels, or soaps. Keeping the lid down when flushing greatly reduces the amount of spread and keeps your washroom much safer and more hygienic. You can also use the Toilet Seat Sanitizer as a disinfectant for things like faucets, flush handles, door knobs, etc to reduce the spread of germs caused due to toilet plume.
4. Wipe correctly
Wipe from front to back for personal hygiene. This tip is particularly crucial for the prevention of UTIs because it stops the spread of bacteria toward the urinary tract. This is an easy behavior, but it is the most significant in preventing hygiene-related concerns.
5. Use a dedicated bin
Keep a small, covered bin in the washroom for used tissues, wipes, product packaging, and feminine hygiene products. These will block pipes and contaminate the toilet bowl if flushed. A covered bin keeps the space clean and odor-free.
What to do if you are traveling or have guests at home?
In case cleaning is not always possible, use toilet seat sanitizers which provide immediate protection by quickly killing all the germs on the seat. Before using the toilet, one may just spray the sanitizer and, 10 seconds time, sit comfortably. This is definitely helpful in homes with numerous members or when someone in the family is recovering from a UTI or another infection. Disposable toilet seat covers can also be handy in such situations. These covers act in personal protection and maintenance of hygiene for the next user. They are very important in families with elderly members, children, or people of low immunity and specially when you are travelling. It creates a barrier between the user and direct contact with the toilet seat; therefore, it reduces the chance of infection passing from one person to another.
Routines for cleaning and maintenance
1. Clean and disinfect frequently
A full deep clean is necessary at least once a week. On top of that, daily wipe-downs of high-touch areas are in order to keep the germs at bay. This is easily done with disinfecting spray or wipes for a quick and efficient clean.
2. Focus on high-touch areas
Surfaces like doorknobs, handles of flushes, faucet handles, and even light switches collect germs rapidly. Disinfecting these frequently cuts the chances of infection among people.
3. Clean surfaces properly
Wipe the sink, countertops, and the outer areas of the toilet with an all-purpose cleaner or a disinfectant. By nature, these surfaces, through the usual function they serve, collect droplets of water, pieces of soap, and germs.
