Simple kitchen habits that may attract more lizards indoors

Lizards often appear in kitchens and dining rooms when the warm season begins. Although they are harmless creatures that eat insects, people would rather live without these reptiles in their houses. There is something in their appearance and movements that scares people off, despite being absolutely harmless. Unfortunately, there are some kitchen habits that homeowners practice, not being aware that they actually invite lizards into their houses. As a rule, lizards find their way to people's homes looking for food, humidity, heat, and a secluded place to spend the day. Here are the five kitchen habits that attract lizards into households.

2/7

Keeping food leftovers overnight

Even tiny leftovers of food on kitchen countertops, floor or table surface can invite some insects like flies or ants. Since lizards are predators of those insects, they try to go where they will have enough prey. Therefore, keeping your house clean will help you prevent lizards from coming into your house looking for food.

3/7

Leaving fruits and vegetables unattended

Sometimes, overripe fruits and unattended vegetables can attract fruit flies or other tiny insects. They are known to be very active in humid conditions; thus, lizards are likely to come and eat them. In order to prevent this habit, store fruits and avoid storing spoiled produce in your kitchen.

4/7

Not noticing damp areas and leaking pipes

Insects tend to be in places where there is much humidity. Consequently, lizards will also be attracted to damp places in order to find their prey. Therefore, it is important to notice any damp spots in the house and deal with them immediately.

5/7

Leaving windows or vents open at night

Warm weather means that a lot of insects will be present outside, attracted by bright light coming through open windows or vents. Thus, once they come inside, lizards can easily follow them. It is better to close the kitchen windows and use a mesh screen or just avoid opening them.

6/7

Keeping cardboard boxes in the kitchen

As was mentioned before, lizards enjoy spending their days in secluded places. Uncovered boxes are perfect for them since they provide a shelter and comfort. Avoid storing any boxes in your kitchen if possible.
