These phrases are very commonly and unapologetically used in Indian households

We all have grown up listening to taunts and remarks from parents, which we were told that "will help us when we grow up". While growing up did help us, but the benefits of those emotionally-numbing remarks are yet to be seen.

While some of us really believed that reprimanding will help us in future, there were some among us who came under its heavy pressure. Not every kid responds to these parental behaviors in the same manner. Some sail through it, some get emotionally challenged.

Therefore, the toxicities of these rebukes, which is very commonly and unapologetically seen in Indian households needs to stop:

2/8

Sharma ji ke bete se sikho

Why would anyone learn from Sharma ji's son when your child is capable enough to show their own talents.

Talents are not just what Sharma ji's son has. The scope of talent is unlimited. Let them work on their talent, and let Sharma ji's son work on his.

3/8

"Kisne kaha tha aag mein kudne ke liye"

On one hand you say life is not a bed of roses and on the other hand you ask me not to jump into fire!

Kids will learn from their mistakes and if your kid has an adventurous mind let them take a chance. Never try to kill curiosity in a child.

4/8

"You don't forget having food"

Never ever say this emotionally numbing statement to your child. Feeding your kid is not a favor that you are doing, this is your responsibility as parents. Do not use this statement as a means to establish your supremacy over your child.

5/8

"Ladki to paraya dhan hai"

No, your daughter is not somebody else's treasure. This is the root cause from where the atrocities against women branch out firmly. Do not treat your girl child as a secondary family member. Marriages do not establish the identity of an individual, it is just a relationship like every other relationship.

6/8

"Who told you to talk back to your elders"

If your child talks back to his or her elders, try to find the reason. Sit and discuss with the child about the behaviour and the hatred they have for the person.

Not always elders are correct and youngsters are wrong.

7/8

"Tumse na ho paega"

Never underestimate the potential of a child. If a child is failing repeatedly make sure to help them succeed in it. What may seem small to you may be a herculean task for a child. Understand the difficulty of the situation from their point of view.

8/8

"Tum kya humse zyada jaante ho"

Maybe your kid knows more than you in several fields. Age does not guarantee the right to know everything or the right to brag that you know everything. Maybe you are oblivious to a thing or two about the current generation and your child will help you with that.
