Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar shares parenting tips to help kids deal with distraction, life challenges, and more
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who is known as an inspiring figure and a spiritual leader, often shares life lessons that one can learn from. In a new video on his YouTube channel, he spoke about parenthood, how parents can help their children deal with distractions, and much more.
He said, “You can’t leave them too loose either; then the horse will go wherever it wants. It is like the string of a guitar or sitar. If it is too tight, no music will come. If it is too loose, no music will come either. You have to tighten it a little and, at the same time, ensure that your tightening is productive.”
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also shared how parents can help their children grow. He said, “You have to achieve your goal, even if you need to be a little strict with children. That is the whole skill in handling young minds persuasion, cajoling, and then creating a little caution in them. Saying, ‘Hey, if you don’t do it, look, this might happen.’ Giving them a little caution all that is necessary.”
Talking about how children throw tantrums due to hormonal changes while growing up, he shared, “Parents may not be able to help at that time. If teachers become friends, they can influence the child not to commit suicide and such acts. Sometimes, you know, teenage children find it very difficult to connect with their parents. This is particularly because their hormones are changing in the body, and their demands become high.”
He further said, “Even though they have a lot of love for their parents, their anger towards them also increases. So such children need to be given special attention and care. It can’t happen overnight, but generally, they have to be persuaded gently over time.”
Gurudev Sri Sri Rav Shankar then said, “We think our mind is inside the body. You should know that our body is inside the mind. From one perspective, everything is connected like water vapour, water, and ice. They are all connected. What appears to be more solid is the body, what is more visible is water, and what is even subtler is the humidity in the atmosphere, which you can’t see, but it is still there.”
