How to use sarcasm carefully when raising kids?

Sarcasm is not the same as being witty

Sarcasm is the use of irony to contempt someone. It is not a healthy sign of a human being. Sarcasm sees another person in a poorer light and continues it with other people as well.

Very often sarcasm is confused with wits and the sarcastic ones bask in the glory of being intelligent.

However, it should be known that a thin line separates sarcasm from wits. Being witty is being quick in creating humor by creating a new idea. It involves cleverness, humor and a quick understanding of the environment.

2/6

Parents should be careful about sarcasm

When raising kids, we need to be careful about several things, one of which is the way we talk and communicate with others.

Apart from the teachings that we give them, our kids mostly learn things from us. Being sarcastic is mostly a negative quality and is damaging in nature.

Sarcasm derides another individual. Being sarcastic before kids, you passively teach them to look down on their fellow classmates and friends.

3/6

It can greatly influence the social networking skill of your child

Learning sarcastic ways in home can affect the social life of the child outside home.

It will leave the child friendless after sometime. Kids often love being in each other's company because they can play together and enjoy being together. But kids who do not get along with each other can never sustain the friendship no matter how hard their parents try.

4/6

Sarcasm is a kind of bully

Parental sarcasm gives the child first hand information on bullying. When it sees the father and the mother engaged in passing shrewd remarks to each other and to other, the child perceives it as a healthy communication and grows the quality within himself or herself.

Such kids grow up to be bullies. Again, this is a detrimental sign and can leave them friendless.

5/6

Sarcasm is a clear route to dishonesty

When one embraces sarcasm, one clearly forgets using honesty. Being honest and straightforward is a quality parents should teach their kids. Calling a spade a spade is what every child should learn.

Sarcasm covers up honesty and promotes flattery. For example, a sarcastic individual will never say that your dress looks hideous, instead he or she will encourage you to wear that and will encourage you to come before everyone to get ridiculed openly.

6/6

Someday it will come back to you

Parents who do not realize how damaging being sarcastic can be, should know that someday it will come back to you.

Do not flaunt your sarcastic style of communication before others, especially not before kids. Someday you might get the taste of your medicine.

Is it ok to kiss your kids on their lips?
