The right way to initiate a conversation with your dad

"You look great in this shirt"

We all know our dads are never fond of appreciation: neither they like giving it or they like getting it. But deep inside, they don't mind getting a compliment or two for their looks and their attire. Complementing your dad for the nice shirt he is wearing can be a good conversation initiator. Try it, if it does not work here are some other options you can try too.

2/6

"Thanks for being a good support"

Even if you don't say this, your dad will still remain your first and most solid support system. Thanking your dad for supporting you at times when you had lost your confidence is a great way to start a conversation. Sit with him and help him remember the incident. Maybe he would also start sharing a few of his own stories.

3/6

"You are a great listener"

Our dads are silent heroes. We often notice their visible silence but what we miss is their listening ability. Fathers are great listeners. They are great observers too. Compliment your dad for being such a good listener and observer and also for being the one who has more confidence in your strengths.

4/6

"You are a great leader"

Fathers lead the family in many households. They work alongside moms to make home a better place for everyone. But rarely do we speak of their contribution. Initiate a conversation by complimenting your dad on the impeccable leadership skills he has.

5/6

"Let's go out for a while"

Invite your dad for dinner. Take him with you to a posh restaurant nearby. Spend time together. Talk over general knowledge, current affairs, and matters important to life and livelihood. Share with him your workplace stress and take some valuable life-changing lessons from him. Pamper your dad with a lovely gift.

Things your dad said in your childhood which make sense now

6/6

"I want to change my career"

Now, this is where you seek suggestions. Dads are the encyclopedia of information. They would leave no stone unturned to help their kids overcome a challenging situation. Ask your dad to help you with career-related information and note down his responses.
