​Hungarian study finds the right age for women to give birth​


A new study, published in the BJOG: an International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, has found a link between maternal age and non-genetic birth anomalies. For the research, 31,128 births were studied using data from the Hungarian Case-Control Surveillance of Congenital Abnormalities between 1980 and 2009. It found that women aged 23 to 32 had the lowest risk of birth defects.

​These are the best years to get pregnant, study finds​


As per the researchers, for a woman getting pregnant between 23 and 32 years of age minimizes the risk of giving birth to a child with complications. The nine-year window showed the least risk of birth defects in kids born to the moms, the researchers found after studying more than 31,000 births.

​Is early pregnancy better than older pregnancy?​


The study found that the optimal age to bear kids is between 23 and 32 years of age. The study highlights the age-old believe in society that early pregnancy is good for women. It found that fetus complications were seen more commonly in moms younger than 20. While the likelihood of giving birth to a baby with cleft lip and palate is 45% for older moms, it is 9% for younger moms.

​There is a higher risk of birth defects in the young mom​


Scientists at Semmelweis University in Hungary found that the risk of birth defects increased by about one-fifth for births in women under the age of 22. They found that in young mothers, central nervous system anomalies were most commonly seen in fetuses. This risk increases when the mother is below 20 years of age.

​These risks were commonly seen in the fetuses of older mothers​


The study also highlighted the risks associated with advanced maternal age. It found that congenital disorders of the head, neck, ears, and eyes increased by 100 percent in women who had pregnancy over the age of 40. Serious health conditions like spina bifida are more likely to be seen in fetuses born to older moms.

​Advanced maternal age can lead to these complications​


As per health reports and fertility experts, in advanced maternal age which is when a woman gets pregnant after the age of 35, complications like preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, premature birth of the fetus, miscarriage, down syndrome, and stillbirth. Experts say that as women age the quality of the eggs deteriorates and there is a higher chance of chromosomal anomalies.
