The brother-sister duo has created history

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa and Vaishali Rameshbabu become the first brother-sister duo to become chess grandmasters. Vaishali got the required 2,500 International Chess Federation (FIDE) ranking points on Friday at the IV El Llobregat Open in Spain. Vaishali is the elder sister of Praggnanandhaa and the only daughter of Rameshbabu and Nagalakshmi.

Age is not a constraint for this sibling duo

In 2018, Praggnanandhaa was the youngest to become the grandmaster at 12. His sister Vaishali became the third Indian woman to earn the title of Chess grandmaster at the age of 22. If there is anything you need to learn from this sibling it is to set new records. Both siblings have achieved notable success at a very young age, challenging the notion that expertise in chess comes with age. Their accomplishments underscore the importance of dedication, hard work, and a love for the game.

"Happy to see that she's finally getting where she belongs"

On his sister's success, an elated Praggnanandhaa said, "Happy to see that she's finally getting where she belongs." “I felt that she has GM strength for a long time already. Happy to see that she’s finally getting where she belongs," he told Chess.com.

Role models for each other

While on one hand Praggnanandhaa and Vaishali serve as role models for aspiring chess players, they also inspire each other. They demonstrate that with talent, hard work, and family support, one can overcome challenges and reach the pinnacle of success in the highly competitive world of chess.

Mutual support

Praggnanandhaa and Vaishali have consistently supported each other's chess endeavors. Their success is not only individual but also a testament to their collaborative efforts, creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere within their family.
