The pain of being 'almost' parents

Miscarriages can be devastating. The whole prospect of being ‘almost’ parents and then having that gift taken away can be scarring for a lot of couples. If you have known someone who has suffered a miscarriage, it is not difficult to imagine the haunting pain the woman (and the partner) goes through.

2/10

"Why did it happen?"

While miscarriages happen for a lot of reason, most couples have one question in common, “Why did it happen?” Sadly, most of the time, nobody knows the actual answer to this heartbreaking question.

3/10

5 reasons

The loss of a pregnancy is an extremely traumatising event for both the partners. We list down 5 plausible reasons why miscarriages take place:

4/10

Obesity

Yes, your physical health has a lot to do with your pregnancy and obesity poses a greater risk of miscarriage. As per the report by CDC, a lot of women are already overweight or obese before they become pregnant. This in itself increases the chances of complications in pregnancy.

5/10

Lifestyle

There are certain lifestyle habits like drinking alcohol and drug abuse during pregnancy, which may lead to pregnancy loss. In fact, the use of certain herbs and medications during pregnancy may increase the risk of miscarriage as the toxins present in these substances can be harmful to the fetus.

6/10

Hormone problems

Hormonal issues may affect the pregnancy as the deficiency in secretion of progesterone can lead to problems with the implantation of the egg.

7/10

Diabetes

It is necessary that diabetes is treated and managed well in an expectant woman, as it poses a great risk to the pregnancy. The worse part? Suffering from diabetes may increase the risk of birth defects including fetal malformations.

8/10

Chromosome abnormality

Abnormalities in the chromosome or gene abnormality may also result in miscarriages. Some other factors include, the woman being over the age of 35, toxic environment and even physical problems in the mother.

9/10

What are the symptoms of a miscarriage?

There are certain telltale signs of pregnancy loss. Some of them are as follows:

1. Mild to severe cramps

2. Spotting

3. Back pain

4. Loss of pregnancy symptoms

5. Vaginal discharge of fluid

10/10

When should you seek urgent help?

If you experience the above-mentioned signs and symptoms, it does not always mean that you are having a miscarriage. Infact, light vaginal bleeding or spotting is common during the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy.

However, if you are suffering from severe cramps and vaginal bleeding which is not stopping, it is important that you seek medical help, right away.
