10 things every teenage girl needs to know from her parents

1/11

This is for every brilliant, hilarious, emotional, incredibly strong girl

We know being a teenager can feel like standing in the middle of a tornado while juggling homework, friendships, hormones, and figuring out who you are. So we want to tell you a few things — not as rules, but as reminders. Things we wish we’d known when we were your age. Things parents think about all the time but don’t always say out loud.

2/11

You don’t have to have everything figured out

Seriously. Anyone who acts like they’ve got their entire life planned is probably faking it a little. You’re allowed to change your mind — about your hobbies, your clothes, your goals, and what makes you happy. You don’t need to know exactly what career you want or who your “forever” friends are yet. You are a work-in-progress, and that’s a beautiful place to be.

3/11

Your worth does NOT come from likes, follows, or filters

Social media is great for creativity and staying connected — but it’s also a highlight reel. People don’t post themselves crying on a bad hair day after a failed math test… or maybe they do, but you get the point. You are not a number on a screen. You are not a comparison chart. You are a whole human being with ideas, laughter, and heart. Your voice and kindness matter infinitely more than any online applause.

4/11

Friendships will change — and that’s okay

Some friends walk with you your whole life. Others join you for just a chapter. Both kinds are valuable. If a friendship becomes exhausting instead of uplifting, you’re allowed to step back. Choose people who clap for you, who respect you, who make you feel seen. Quality > popularity. Always.

5/11

You can say no — and you don’t need an excuse

No to things that make you uncomfortable.
No to trying to impress someone who doesn’t respect you.
No to peer pressure wrapped up as “just having fun.”
Your boundaries are not optional. They are necessary. And real people — the right people — will respect them. “No” is a full sentence. Practice saying it without apologizing afterward.

6/11

Your body is your own — treat it with love

It’s the only one you get. You don’t exist to be pretty for other people. Your body lets you laugh, dance, breathe, dream. Appreciate what it does, not just what it looks like. Don’t let anyone — not media, not classmates, not even that loud inner critic — tell you your worth is measured by a mirror.
Eat the pizza. Wear the comfy clothes. Love the skin you’re in.

7/11

Mistakes don’t define you — they teach you

You’re going to mess up. A lot. Everyone does. The most important question isn’t “Why did I do that?” but “What did I learn?” Every mistake you make builds your strength, wisdom, and resilience. And no matter what happens, home is a place where you can land safely. We’re here to help you figure things out — not to judge you.

8/11

You’re allowed to feel all your feelings

Happy. Angry. Jealous. Scared. Confused. Excited. Sometimes… all at once.
None of your emotions make you dramatic or “too much.” Feelings are how your heart communicates. What matters is what you do with those feelings — speak honestly, cry when you need to, take deep breaths, find people who listen. You are never a burden.

9/11

Love shouldn’t hurt — emotionally or physically

If someone makes you doubt your worth…
If someone controls you or puts you down…
If someone apologizes but never changes…
That’s not love. That’s manipulation. The right relationships — romantic or otherwise — feel like safety, respect, and laughter. Love isn’t a battlefield. It’s a team.

And remember: You don’t need a relationship to be complete. You are already whole.

10/11

You are braver than you believe

The world may feel big, noisy, and intimidating. But look at you — standing up, learning, growing, trying again even when things are hard. Courage isn’t loud. It’s quiet, daily determination: showing up to class after a tough day, raising your hand even when your voice shakes, choosing kindness over popularity.
Whenever you doubt yourself, remember all the storms you’ve already survived.

11/11

We’ll always be in your corner — no matter what

Even when we disagree.
Even when you slam the door.
Even when you think we don’t understand — and honestly, sometimes we won’t.
But every rule, every lecture, every awkward conversation? It comes from love. We want you safe. We want you confident. We want you to know that there is nothing you can do that will make us stop caring about you.
You can always come home.
You can always call.
You can always talk to us — even if the words are messy.
