Night-blooming plants are one of nature’s quiet wonders. Many of them open after sunset, release a stronger fragrance in the dark and attract moths, bats and other nocturnal pollinators. Their pale flowers are easier to notice at night, which helps them survive and reproduce in low light. Here are eight such plants:

Night-blooming cereus is a famous group of cacti known for large, short-lived flowers that open at night. Some species bloom for only one evening, making the sight rare and memorable. Their pale, often white flowers are adapted for night pollination and the blooms usually fade before morning.

The dragon fruit plant produces large, very fragrant, nocturnal flowers. These impressive blooms open at night and are pollinated by nighttime visitors. After pollination, they develop into the familiar dragon fruit. Because the flowers are so large and beautiful, they are often considered one of the plant’s biggest attractions.
