6 easy ways to make hand washing fun for kids

The frequency of washing hands has increased multifold since the onset of coronavirus pandemic. Kids often have the habit of touching their mouth and face unknowingly, which gives a passage to germs and viruses to enter the body. Though we all have trained our kids well enough to wash their hands thoroughly but something the task can get monotonous for them. If your kids also look for ways to skip washing hands, here is how you can make it more fun for them so that they start enjoying the habit.

2/7

Make it easy for them

In some cases, kids are so small that they cannot reach the wash basin and rinse their hands. The struggle to open up the tap every time can be the reason that they do not want to wash hands.

Giving them a simple step stool to reach the sink can be the first step to make hand washing easy for kids.

If you think a step stool can be risky, you can use a faucet extender. The faucet extender allows the water to reach the kids easily.

It is also a better alternative as it saves you from the hassle of putting the stool every time your kid has to wash his hands.

3/7

Make it cute and bright

Kids are always interested in things that look cute and bright. You can invest in a cute cartoon hand wash bottle, which will encourage your kids to wash their hands frequently.

4/7

Try drawing

Take your kid's help and draw a hand washing chart, which illustrates the right way to wash hands and also when to wash hands (after using the loo, before eating something, etc). You can tell your kid if he follows the chart properly, he will get a special treat.

5/7

You make it a habit

We all know that kids imitate parents. So, if you will make handwashing a habit, it will be easy for you to teach it to your kids. Kids learn better by observing rather than just hearing. So, make sure to set the right example for them.

6/7

Make them understand the importance of handwashing through books/visuals

It's easy to make kids understand things by showing them visuals or doing easy experiments. Read here: Teacher highlights the importance of handwashing to kids

Colourful books also have a big impact on kids' minds and make it easy for them to grasp the concept.

7/7

Make them sing rhymes

Make your kids sing their favourite rhyme, which will help them scrub their hands for longer. You can also take out a print of their favourite rhyme and place it in front of the sink. This will help them wash their hands for longer and thoroughly.
