7 types of employees who are a manager’s nightmare

Dealing with difficult employees

Being a team leader is not an easy job. You manage a bunch of employees who always have some or the other reasons to make you doubt your sanity. While some might trouble you with their pessimistic attitude, others may give you a hard time because of their unprofessional habits. Then at the end of the day, it is the manager who is answerable for the work done by his or her team and bear the brunt of their actions. Here are seven types of employees that most managers deal with in every team…

2/8

The cribbers

These teammates have a negative attitude towards everything and press the panic button even before the work is assigned to them. They have developed the knack to crib even before they start working and need to be motivated every day by their manager. If they are a little burdened with work, they will complain, “Oh, this task is never ending.” And when they have a strict deadline, they will mention countless times, “God! How I am going to complete this.”

3/8

The absentees

Such employees look for reasons to take an off from work. Whether there is a deliverable due for the day or an important meeting scheduled, they won’t think twice before taking an unplanned leave at the last moment. Plus, their reasons for not making it to the office might vary from common cold, fever, headache to robbery at their house, fire at neighbour’s house or sudden health issues of a distant relative.

4/8

The gossipmongers

These are the most common types of employees that give their manager a hard time. They love to gossip with their colleagues and poke their nose in everyone’s business. They make it difficult for others to concentrate on their work and they hardly notice that their behaviour is a cause of distraction for others. They generally extend their lunch hours every day and love to go on frequent coffee breaks.

5/8

Dual-faced

These are one of most difficult employees to manage. They tend to look friendly and don’t mind extending a helping hand to others. They listen to everyone’s problems but here comes the catch—they love to create conflict in the team and turn people against each other. And the worst part, they pretend they had no role in the on-going politics.

6/8

I am always right

People with I-know-it-all attitude are very difficult to manage. They believe they are always right and others are not as ‘intelligent’ as them. They have an opinion about everything, and love to argue over what they feel is right. If their manager politely tries to correct them, they get miffed for the entire day ahead.

7/8

The Cinderellas

The best word to describe these kind of teammates is ‘Cinderella’. They could hardly concentrate on any work as the day draws to an end. Like Cinderella, as the much-awaited hour approaches, they would just pack their bags and leave, irrespective of whether their work was completed or not.

8/8

The lazy ones

These are the ones who may know how to do the work but are too lazy to do it. They tend to delay their work till the last moment and often miss their deadlines. They live in their own happy world where they browse Internet aimlessly for hours and can do anything to stay away from work. In fact, such slackers are the happiest when they are doing nothing, and their manager needs to constantly remind them to complete their work on time.
