Vices and virtues of online dating

No matter how old you are, you must have resorted to online dating at least once in your lifetime. Digital platforms have given us innumerable opportunities in every walk of our life. Even in terms of love and relationships, it has provided us an escape from our loveless, unromantic lives and helped us meet people, who otherwise would have remained strangers to us all our lives. However, meeting people online or digitally dating them can be problematic in many aspects. While we may already be aware of the pros and cons of online dating, here are 7 millenials who shared their experiences with the same.

2/8

“With the help of online dating, I met many interesting people, but with time I realized how most of them were lying about their true identity”

After series of heartbreaking relationships, I chose to take a break from real relationships and switched to digital dating, which didn’t really feel emotionally exhausting. With the help of online dating, I met many interesting people, but with time I realized how most of them were lying about their true identity, which kind of made me more uncomfortable and doubtful of people.

3/8

“It’s exciting initially but over time there’s a lack of physical interaction”

If someone is looking for some excitement or a special friend to communicate with, then online spaces are the best for you. Otherwise, it’ll all come down to wanting to meet the person behind the opposite screen. It’s exciting initially but over time there’s a lack of physical interaction.

4/8

“Online dating can be convenient but it sure isn’t good for the long run”

As accessible and available people are online, you can never expect to meet so many people in the physical world. It is also a space where people are hardly shy of each other and are more expressive. However, online dating can be convenient on many levels, but it sure isn’t good for the long run. Ultimately, other things like physical presence, love, emotions tend to kick in and that’s when one has to decide and come to a conclusion.

5/8

“It may give a sense of companionship, but the real emotions always seem to be missing”

I remember finding a great person online and chatted with one another for quite some time. As long as the talks were limited to our profession and our travels to different people, it was all good. But as our conversation took an emotional turn, there was complete dissociation. So, online dating may give a sense of companionship, but the real emotions seem to be missing.

6/8

“While it gives you a lot of choices, it also takes away the chance of meeting a potential partner”

Online platforms are a hub for opportunities. However, it can sometimes overwhelm people. While it gives you a lot of choices, it also takes away the chance of meeting a potential partner. That being said, I feel I might have missed a lot of people who actually wanted to commit rather than just look for short-term romances.

7/8

“It’s all fun and games until you realize you have built on a lot of unrealistic expectations”

In my experience with online dating, I feel, having communicated with people prior to meeting them in person had created or built a lot of unnecessary expectations in me, which often left me disappointed or upset. Therefore, it’s all fun and games until you realize you have built on a lot of unrealistic expectations.

8/8

“Online dating is great for short time flings, but in the future, if I’d be looking for something solid, then it’d be a big ‘NO’ for me”

Well, meeting people on social media platforms and online dating sites can be a great experience in the beginning. It was surely and fun experience for me and I met people who were seemingly charming. However, over time I realized how online dating is great for short time flings, but in the future, if I’d be looking for something solid, then it’d be a big ‘NO’ for me.
